Lanth has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Lanth Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Lanth, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. The system supports both an Imperial Naval Base and a Scout Base with the additional starship traffic.

Lanth is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Lanth Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
  • The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
  • It also has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Lanth is a non-industrial world separated from the majority of its subsector by the Abyss Rift, and is only accessible through Lunion Subsector or by jump-4. While this is not very important to naval or some scout vessels, its location has a significant impact on trade.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Lanth is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Lanth has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Lanth has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Lanth is the capital of the Lanth Subsector. It is a major military site as well as an important administrative center, occupying a strategic position close to both the Sword Worlds Confederation and the Zhodani Consulate.

The Naval Base hosts major elements of the 18th Fleet.

During the Fifth Frontier War Lanth was subject to a surprise attack by the Sword Worlds, beginning on 190-1107. Fierce planetary fighting was followed by a brief occupation by Sword World forces. In the course of the war the Imperial 100th Fleet and the Sword Worlds Gram Fleet fought a series of battles for control of the system, which culminated in Imperial victory on 094-1109. Planetary fighting continued until the last Sword Worlds elements were defeated on 241-1109.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Lanth has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Lanth has a population of 700,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Lanth possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Lanth is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Lanth, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

  • It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
  • It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial subsector duke, who also conducts affairs regarding the entire subsector at the Interstellar and Imperial level.
See Nobles of Lanth.
The Dukes of Lanth retain substantial fiefs on several of the islands, hold three planets and one moon as private reserves, and are the planet’s titular heads-of-state. However, they have very little real political power, especially since the oligarchs assemble only once or twice a year except in emergencies, and generally just rule their own territories.
  • Lanth is the center of administration for the Subsector.
--
The Ducal See is currently vacant.

World Law (L)[edit]

Lanth has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
