Nobles of Lanth
The Nobility of this world is a distinguished group of individuals that include both the Imperial Nobles associated with the world as well as any local planetary aristocracy associated with its local government, culture and society.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Imperial Nobility of this world includes all nobles granted titles associated with the world by either the Emperor of the Third Imperium or the Archduke of the Domain. Landed Imperial Nobles are those Imperial Nobles who have been granted direct representative authority for the world in the Imperial Moot, and who administer Imperial interests associated with this world. The positions these nobles hold are typically noted in the Nobility Extension data of most Imperial world data-files provided by the Imperial Grand Survey of the IISS. Landed Nobles are always uniquely styled as the "TITLE" of "WORLDNAME". Ceremonial Imperial Nobles include those Imperial Nobles who have been appointed to a specific Imperial Office or who perform a specific function for the Imperial government, and who happen to have their associated Imperial Land Grants and a principal place of residence on the world. Imperial Honour Nobles are those nobles who do not have a specific governmental function associated with the particular title, but have been granted the title as a reward for achievement or service, or in some cases are Legacy Nobles whose family have held titles of administration in the past but currently have no specific governmental office, retaining only their lands and title.
Planetary and Local Nobility include individuals who hold a title of aristocracy within the local planetary culture of the world, but in some cases also include Imperial Nobles who do not hold a title associated with the world, but who nevertheless hold some property on the world. Titles, forms, and styles of Local Nobility can be quite diverse.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Dukes of Lanth retain substantial fiefs on several of the islands, hold three planets and one moon as private reserves, and are the planet’s titular heads-of-state. However, they have very little real political power, especially since the oligarchs assemble only once or twice a year except in emergencies, and generally just rule their own territories.
The Kuuamlas, a venerable Vilani noble family dating back to pre-Imperial times, held the title of Duke of Lanth ever since it was created in 693. However, the Zhodani invaders arrested the last Kuuamla Duke and his entire family during the Fifth Frontier War and held them prisoner on the Stavenger Peninsula. They all died when the prison was destroyed by the sympathetic detonation of dozens of nuclear weapons stored in a nearby bunker.
The vacant title was recently purchased by Joseph Bolivar diGriz, who, in a curious twist of fate, is the principal shareholder of ‘The Stainless Steel Rats’ mercenary company that is rumored to have deliberately targeted the nuclear storage bunker. As of 1115, diGriz has yet to claim his fief and thus formally remains the Duke-presumptive (or "Na-Duke" in local parlance) of Lanth. Some on planet who are critical of his elevation have satirized him as the ‘Na-Na-Duke,’ while others who relished seeing the hated Zhodani occupiers vaporized refer to him as ‘Duke Nukem.’
