Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:

  • Gurvin: The common language of the Hive Federation and a secondary language in many of its client states.
  • Hiver Sign Language: The silent, visual language used naturally by Hivers.
  • Ithkluri: The common language of the Ithklur, and used in conjunction with Gurvin throughout the Hive Federation and adjacent space.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The coreward parts of the sector are considered part of the Blaskon Region of Interest, less 'pacified' than the Central Zone and occasionally seeing some unrest on member worlds, though the spinward segments of the Region were settled early in the expansion of the Hive Federation. The mid and rimward parts of the sector are considered part of the Trailing Bulge, bordering the Kolire-Kidunal Sparsity.

Two major Hive Federation member races -- the Gurvin and the Kamuke -- are based in Folgore.

The Hivers encountered the Gurvin early in their period of interstellar expansion. Gurvin culture adapted fairly readily to Hiver cultural standards; though the Gurvin exhibited aggressive behaviour, their aggression had long been channelled into economic pursuits. They are now the primary financiers and traders of the Federation.

Native Sophonts: 1116[edit]

The following races (sophont species) are believed to have originated within this area:

  • Koo oeo Tramup ea: Another major Gurvin religion.

Economics[edit]

The following corporations of note are active here:

  • Geopath General Trading: A general electronics, trading house and shipping firm, that also indulges in speculative trade and advertises itself as a supplier of rare and luxury items.
  • Idigu Shipping: A Gurvin corporation specialising in the transport of passengers and freight. They subcontract to other shipping companies or ship owners to carry cargo and passengers under their flag.
  • Lamuskshaash: A Gurvin firm that manufactures avionics, computers, robots and information retrieval systems.
  • Mugimgu-Shikhegdi: Once two separate Gurvin companies -- Mugimgu Shipyards, which manufactured starships, and Shikhegdi, which fabricated heavy vehicles. Mugimgu-Shikhegdi specialises in manufacturing heavy machinery, including starships, vehicles and space habitats.
  • Moteton Mining: Starting on Iilregon (Folgore 1404), now interested in all forms of mining, from strip mining to hydrogen mining. Moteton has a reputation for aggressively protecting their interest and are known to undertake hostile takeovers of companies they see as standing in their way.
  • Phlotlalu Agronomics: A Gurvin company that specialises in supporting agriculture in all its forms. They operate farms, provide agricultural education, and manufacture agricultural vehicles and robots.

  • Slatrastelir: A respected spacecraft classification society among the Za'tachk. The standards created and used by Slatrastelir have been adopted throughout the Hive Federation and in many client states.

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]

  • -4050: An exploratory Hiver vessel arrives in the Ofilaq system and discovers the Gurvin. The Hivers proceed carefully.
  • Circa -3890: On Ofilaq, the religion Oo Giphlan Dia is founded. Proponents of the new faith believe that a supreme deity, Maslanuud the manipulator, has sent the Hivers to the Gurvin.
  • -3875: The zealot Eenat-Oathisk begins an eight-year conflict on Ofilaq, trying to subjugate the world under Oo Giphlan Dia.
    • The Hiver nest responsible for uplifting Gurvin society is removed from the project and another nest given the responsibility.
  • -3867: The Ofilaq world war ends with a global, Hiver-backed republic in place.
  • -3650: The Hivers judge that the Gurvin have matured sufficiently to be allowed outside their home system. They provide them with the jump-1 drive but limit their exploration to the Aghan Subsector.
    • Gurvin extrasolar colonies are founded on Spakaem (Folgore 0304), Ataof (Folgore 0203) and Otuna (Folgore 0104).
  • -3548: Eager to present a united front to acquire jump-2 drive from the Hivers, the Gurvin form the Gurvin Interstellar Democratic Republic and make an official request to join the nascent Hive Federation and be provided with jump-2. The Hivers declare the Gurvin an "adult" species and agree.
  • -2029 to -2013: The Hiver-K'kree War to coreward threatens the Hiver community, and sees the firming of the Hive Federation into its modern form.
