History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Spakaem was one of the first three major colonies established by the Gurvin upon their gaining the jump drive. Its population has long been larger than that of Ofilaq itself.

World Starport[edit]

Spakaem has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Spakaem has a population of 6,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Demographics[edit]

  • Gurvin, 90%
  • Representatives of various other species.

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Surface architecture is generally utilitarian, with little thought for aesthetics. There are plenty of underground areas, as Gurvin evolved from tunnelling den-living animals. Surface buildings are often grouped very closely together, connected via corridors on several levels. Gurvin do not generally separate residential areas from business areas. Their cities also have an unfortunate reputation for significant pollution problems.

World Technology Level[edit]

Spakaem possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Spakaem is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

Spakaem is a member of the Gurvin Interstellar Democratic Republic. The Republic government has two levels -- the representative committee where legislation and amendments to current legislation are raised, and the board, on which all 46 member worlds, regardless of population, have two directors, selected as they choose to serve terms of 10 years.

World Timeline[edit]

  • -3650: The Hivers judge that the Gurvin have matured sufficiently to be allowed outside their home system. They provide them with the jump-1 drive but limit their exploration to the Aghan Subsector.
    • Gurvin extrasolar colonies are founded on Spakaem, Ataof (Folgore 0203), and Otuna (Folgore 0104).
  • -3548: Eager to present a united front to acquire jump-2 drive from the Hivers, the Gurvin form the Gurvin Interstellar Democratic Republic and make an official request to join the nascent Hive Federation and be provided with jump-2. The Hivers declare the Gurvin an "adult" species and agree.
  • -2029 to -2013: The Hiver-K'kree War to coreward threatens the Hiver community, and sees the firming of the Hive Federation into its modern form.
