Kolire-Kidunal Sparsity

The Kolire-Kidunal Sparsity, sometimes called the Kidunal Rift, is a pseudo-rift on the trailing-rimward edge of Charted Space. While the stellar density in the Sparsity is considerably lower than in most parts of Charted Space, it does not reach the extremes of the Great Rift, and there are several routes by which a jump 5 or 6 ship can cross.

The Hive Federation, the major political power nearest the Sparsity, treats this rift as a natural border, and hasn't colonised the far side, though it has launched a few expeditions.

Rumours and Mysteries

Some travellers who have dealt with the Hivers report that there may be some manner of cohesive polity or power with "claim" over much of the Sparsity, as well as space on its far side. This unconfirmed power is rumoured to extend into the trailing sectors known as Taezohm and The Roast. Data confirming or refuting this is as yet unavailable to the IISS. A straight answer from the Hivers is too much to hope for.
