457-793 is a preindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Rhylanor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
- 457-973 is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It is the homeworld of the Pelosians.
- This world is also known as Pelouse.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
457-973 has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
457-973 is interdicted by the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service to protect the Pelosians — a local developing race — from exploitation. A small human population studies the race from a remote underground installation.
It orbits within the habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
457-973 is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
- The world has a diameter of 4,220 km.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
457-973 has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
- The atmosphere is tainted by an unknown substance, believed to be of biological origin. It causes a strong allergic response in most sophonts.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
457-973 has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Native Sophont[edit]
The Pelosians, a minor sophont race, are native to the world. After official first contact was made late in the 1100s, it was learned that they call themselves Ebur.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
457-973 is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.
- Travel to this world is prohibited.
The world is interdicted by the IISS to protect a local developing race from exploitation; a small human population studies the race from a remote underground installation. [2]
Conspiracy theorists keep trying to link the Red Zone with the research station at Vanejen, but this seems unlikely as the Imperium would place its station at a location actually within the interdicted system if there were something there needing to be studied. [3]
Earlier Data[edit]
This world is interdicted and off-limits to unauthorized personnel. Little else is known at this time.[4]
World Starport (St)[edit]
457-793 does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
World Population (P)[edit]
457-793 has a population of 30,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
- The population entirely consists of Pelosians.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Local native languages.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
457-793 possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
457-793 has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Law (L)[edit]
457-793 has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
457-973's position on the Spinward main has led to the colonisation of planet 457-973-Alpha (Sventree-aye) and most of the outer system. In 1107 Calin Adomsen, a distant scion of the Emperor, and 'richest teenager in the sector' was apponted Baronet 457-973. Baronet Calin has an imperial warrant to build a class A highport in the outer system whilst ensuring a 'tighter enforcement' of the planetary quarantine of 457-793 (Mainworld).
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 9 (moderate)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: 5 (limited)
- Efficiency: -3 (poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 6 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
- Symbols: 4 (concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- The Year 0: the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 589-604: First Frontier War.
- 604-622: the Civil War.
- 615-620: Second Frontier War.
- 624: the Express Boat Network is established.
- 979-986: Third Frontier War.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1082-1084: Fourth Frontier War, also known as the False War.
- 1107-1110: Fifth Frontier War.
Later Historical Eras[edit]
Pelouse was interdicted by the IISS and later by the RISS to protect a developing race but contact is being undertaken by the RISS, as the achievement of TL–5 is usually considered sufficient to open previously interdicted worlds to outside contact. However, the interdiction is still in effect against commercial contact, as the RISS contact process is not yet complete. The name is a lyrical translation of the race's name for their world, which means "lawn." [5]
Although it was learned in the 1100s that the native sophonts call themselves Ebur, this is still not well known outside of RISS until after 1205. "Pelosians" continues to be the primary name the Regency uses.
