Arkadia is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vilis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- It is a member of the Vilis Trace.
- This world was once known as Aroundight.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Stars
Arkadia has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data
Mainworld Size (S)
Arkadia is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
- It is a geologically unstable world, prone to frequent earthquakes and eruptions.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Arkadia has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- Arkadia has a normal climate and a thin oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere slightly tainted with volcanic gases.
- It experiences moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Arkadia has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)
Arkadia was originally colonized in 198 by Sword Worlders from Colada and named Aroundight. After being cut off from the Sword Worlds Arkadia regressed and was eventually taken over by Imperial settlers. Arkadia was granted Imperial membership in 576.
World Starport (St)
Arkadia has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
The starport is located in a tectonically secure location many miles away from major population centers. It is a classic Class E Starport in its most literal form: a bare, flat, rocky place with a beacon. It is, however, fenced off. All official access points are guarded by the Artisans' Customs Service. All cargo entering or leaving the port is inspected carefully to be sure that proper export permission has been given, as only the highest quality items are allowed to leave Arkadia.
World Population (P)
Arkadia has a population of 400,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
Urbanization
Arkadia's population is separated between several widely scattered settlements.
Linguistic Topography
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)
Arkadia possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)
Arkadia is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
Three representatives from each major settlement are sent to the capital. Which settlement is the capital changes annually, and deciding which holds the position for a given year is a major function of the local democratic process.
World Law (L)
Arkadia has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility
Arkadia, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the estate and fiefdoms of three members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
