Lifeforms[edit]
Winston has a thriving biosphere, with jungles and forests dominant on all three of its continents. Indigenous life forms are primarily insectoids, though larger forms feature a muscular-pumped respiratory system, and so can achieve disconcertingly large sizes.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
It is one of the Entropic Worlds and historically, both the Darrian and Sword Worlds confederations have laid claim to the system. Winston was a thinly colonized Darrian world before being taken by the Sword Worlds during the Fourth Frontier War. The Imperium has generally backed Darrian claims while the Zhodani Consulate has backed the Sword Worlds claim.
In 1105 Winston was a Sword Worlds holding.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Winston has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
History-Era: Milieu 1120[edit]
Throughout the Fifth Frontier War the Sword Worlds' Joyeuse Fleet patrolled Winston as part of the larger Darrian Campaign. When the Joyeuse Fleet was driven off by Imperial forces, the Darrians seized Winston and the armistice was arranged before the Sword Worlds could retake the system.
Winston is a balkanized world that has lost a great deal of its population and technology in the repeated fighting between Darrians and Sword Worlders. Some nations on Winston remain sympathetic to the Sword Worlds, but most are loyal to Darrian.
Timeline[edit]
- -924: The Maghiz causes the collapse of interstellar Darrian society; Winston colony left isolated.
- -855: Draygon's Disease, a terrible plague, rapidly destroys the first colony.
- -271: Winston is found abandoned by a scout ship from Mire. Old agricultural settlements have grown wild but the transplanted crops are still present. Entrope establishes a new colony.
- -204: A medical centre is rediscovered during an archaeological survey sent by Daryen. The entire world is quarantined to prevent the escape of Draygon’s Disease. However, subsequent decades of analysis fail to find any microorganism that could explain the ancient plague.
- Circa 600: The First Frontier War sunders Winston from the rest of the Confederation. Having no real industry, Winston is left alone in exchange for its food exports.
- 1082: The Fourth Frontier War is disastrous for Winston. Over a third of its population and most of its technology are lost. New Sword World occupation starts.
