The Wakatake class System Defense Boat is a defensive warship.
- It is a military ship and a System Defense Boat (SDB).

Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Wakatake class System Defense Boat is a heavily armored military bigcraft used by the defense forces of Hasadran (world), an important neutral system in the Genesti Subsector in the Far Home Sector. It is a rugged, reliable design that has seen much action and is well liked by its crews. The Hasadran (world) is believed to operate at least five of these vessels rumors are that the admiralty of the Grand Fleet of the Firstworlds helped subsidized their construction. Plans to build more and export them to neighboring neutral worlds to contribute to a defense in depth approach. The military grade computer was replaced with a commercially available model 5 which lacks fiber optic backups and EMP hardening. The standard 20ton launch was replaced with a custom 18ton life boat. To preserve the high agility only three single pulse lasers were turret mounted.
- The vessel is a TL-11 design.

General Description[edit]
The Wakatake class is a partially streamlined cylindrical hull the ship has a total enclosed volume of approximately 7,000 cubic meters. The hull is solid and extremely thick, though there are access and maintenance spaces, and almost half of the internal volume is given over to machinery and fuel. The decks within the vessel are arranged vertically and are accessed by elevator shafts. The bridge, the computer and the electronics are forward, accommodations are located centrally, while the cargo hold is located aft and is at ground level when the vessel is landed. The avionics bay and computer room are spacious and can be accessed. The boat deck is amidships.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]
| Basic Ship Characteristics [2] | ||
|---|---|---|
| No. | Category | Remarks |
| 1. | Tonnage | The Wakatake class is constructed using a 500 Ton hull built in a cylindrical configuration. The hull is partially streamlined and has very poor atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are heavily reliant on its onboard gravitic systems.
|
| 2. | Crew | Total Crew Complement: 13 (x3 Officers, x10 Enlisted).
Accommodations
Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Maneuver-6 drive and a Power Plant-8, giving performance of 6-G acceleration and producing 40 Energy Points. The ship has an agility rating of 6 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/5 Computer: there is no backup computer.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | x5 hardpoints.
|
| 6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out for an Wakatake class is:
x2 triple Missile launcher turrets, arranged as a single torpedo battery amidships.
x3 single Pulse Laser turrets, arranged as three independent batteries each consisting of a single turret. |
| 7. | Defenses | The hull is plated and structurally reinforced, with an armor rating of 11.
The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems. |
| 8. | Craft | The ship carries 1 x 18T Life Boat subcraft. |
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 40 dTons.
|
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr761.786. |
| 11. | Construction Time | 80 weeks (20 months) as standard.
|
| 12. | Comments | Standard cargo capacity amounts to 1.0 ton in a ship's storage locker. |
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This vessel is a considered by many to be under armed and over priced. The heavy hull armor is blamed for the great cost. Its mass results in the cramped hull interior. Crew space is practically non existent and partially streamlined cylindrical hull is simple and utilitarian but did not result in the savings promised. The life boat is pressed into service as an interface vessel for the crew to reach planet side. The bow, dorsal and aft single pulse laser turrets enjoy local point defense fire control and each has a dedicated weapon operator. However, they are feeble versus armored opponents or vessels equipped with prismatic sand casters. The two triple missile launcher turrets represent the only realistic opportunity to damage enemy vessels. Elusive, nimble and hard to hit it has little to fear from most non meson weaponry. The 6G main drive allows excellent evasive agility. The model/5 computer is seen as a tactical limitation because of the missing fiber optical network.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]
Wakatake-class vessels are typically named using Solomani names from ancient Terran history.
