Rommen-Kucera is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Keum Subsector of Massilia Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
- It is a member of The Great Loop region of the Greater Massilia Main.
- During the Long Night it was a full member of the Rebin Empire.
- At the founding of the Imperium this world was known as Arish.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Rommen-Kucera is a binary star system.
- Both are red main sequence stars.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera is a member of The Great Loop region of the Greater Massilia Main, a major Main and important trade route lying across parts of Massilia Sector and Zarushagar Sector.
The Rebin Empire[edit]
During the Long Night Rommen-Kucera was a full member of the Rebin Empire. It had a matriarchal government and social structure and firmly enforced strict gender roles. It carefully monitored less enlightened worlds in the region and used its status to make decisions on their behalf. The Empire gradually disintegrated in the centuries before the founding of the Third Imperium, with interstellar trade slowly dying off and some of the worlds it had overseen becoming depopulated.
- Most worlds that were members of the Empire still have a strong Rebin cultural flavor.
- The Rebin Empire was generally considered a force for good and most former member worlds are proud of their association with it.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
Locals speak with a distinctive Rebin accent.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
During the Long Night Rommen-Kucera had a matriarchal government, with all offices of state and positions of authority controlled by females.
World Law (L)[edit]
Rommen-Kucera has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
The world has many laws regarding gender status and gender roles, which generally subjugate males.
- These laws are an anachronism from the Rebin Empire.
- There is an active equal rights movement.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Rommen-Kucera, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 9 (moderate)
- Labor: 4 (tens of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 4 (very limited)
- Efficiency: -2 (fair)
World Culture[edit]
The world retains a strongly matriarchal culture. As well as inequality in pay and recompense, males often find that opportunities and roles open to females are not available to them. Males may find it hard to get service or representation without a female escort to speak on their behalf. Visiting males are expected to adhere to the world's social norms and face the same penalties as locals if they break them.
- Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: 8 (somewhat abstract)
