Nirton is a barren vacuum world with no overt population, government, or law level.
- These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death.
- This world could be populated if anyone had an inclination to do so...
- It is an unclaimed Non-Aligned world located in the District 268 Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Nirton is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It lies on the Bowman Arm.
Stellar Data[edit]
Nirton has a solitary primary star named Azuthin.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x1 small gas giant named Maklin [2].
Mainworld Data[edit]
Nirton is a "dead world" that has no atmosphere or water, but possesses extensive radioactive and heavy metal deposits.
Ships jumping into Nirton may refuel at Maklin, the system's only gas giant. However, beacon satellites in the outer reaches of the system constantly broadcast a warning that attempting to land on Nirton or its moon, Tedehan, is an Imperial offense that can lead to the confiscation of the offending ship and long prison terms for its crew. Landings on other moons and asteroids are allowed, but no settlements may be established on them.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Nirton is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Nirton has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Nirton has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Satellites[edit]
Nirton retains a single vacuum moon named Tedehan.
- It orbits once every few weeks.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Nirton is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.
- Travel to this world is prohibited.
The only habitation in the entire Nirton system is a small Imperial Navy observation post on Tedehan that monitors a network of interdiction satellites orbiting Nirton. This facility evidently possesses ground-based space defense capabilities, since ships that approach Tedehan itself too closely receive warnings to turn back or be fired upon. There is no recorded instance in which a ship was actually fired upon, but it is possible that the Imperial Navy has withheld the details of such events. Frequently a small Imperial warship, generally a patrol cruiser or a Gazelle-class close escort, will be present either in the vicinity of the planet or Tedehan.
The planet is a "dead world" that has no atmosphere or water, but possesses extensive radioactive and heavy metal deposits that were discovered during the first comprehensive IISS survey of District 268 in the early 500s. In order to deny these to the Sword Worlds Confederation after the Second Frontier War, the Imperial authorities declared Nirton a strategic mineral reserve in 621, and interdicted the system to prevent unauthorized prospecting. This classification is honored by all of the non-aligned and Imperial-client systems in District 268, since the Imperium did not claim ownership of Nirton, and promised to share its mineral resources equally with all of them. Moreover, the Imperial government made a commitment to supply the financing that will be necessary to build starport facilities when the day comes to exploit the planet’s mineral bounty.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Nirton does not have a starport. The Class X Starport is an indication that no starport exists in the system. There are no facilities or services available, and no site marked for landing.
World Population (P)[edit]
Nirton is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Nirton possesses a Tech Level of TL–0.
- The world has no technological base.
World Government (G)[edit]
Nirton has no government or ruling authority of any kind.
World Law (L)[edit]
Nirton has no law level. No laws of any kind are enforced other than the Imperial edict of Interdiction.
