Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Arquebus class Patrol Cutter is a light warship.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

It is a lightly armored fully streamlined saucer structure with fuel scoops and on board fuel purification for wilderness ocean refueling. The ship is capable of Jump-1, and carries enough internal fuel for five Jump-1. The maneuver drives develop 1G acceleration with no agility rating. It carries a Model/2 ship computer adjacent to the main bridge. An ancient design, with blueprints surviving from before the exodus. They were built over a period of 34 years and 116 still remain in service with various low tech planetary navies. It is intended for long (8 month) endurance patrols and anti-smuggling customs inspections. It requires 14 months to build, at a competent shipyard. Several up-gunned conversions of this design have appeared among certain groups of privateers. The original design has enough fuel for five jumps without refueling. No refineries were fitted for wilderness refueling as a cost saving measure.

It is armed with a single missile rack, a double beam laser turret and a single sand caster turret.

The crew consists of a pilot, navigator, medic, 3 gunners, small craft pilot, engineer and 2 marines.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Built locally at Jesel for the The Last Line, which is the youngest state within the Distant Fringe, located in the coreward/spinward quadrant of Halcyon Sector. They use this class as a fleet escort.

Distant Fringe Vessels[edit]

The Distant Fringe is said to be a far trailing-rimward area inhabited by colonists and refugees originating on Terra. The region is extremely isolated, separated from the rest of Charted Space by vast, almost uncrossable rifts that were once broached by a system of calibration Points and the use of tankers. Those few academics within Charted Space who have found references to the Distant Fringe regard it as little more than a tall tale. Likewise, many of the inhabitants of the Distant Fringe believe the existence of Charted Space to be mythical.[3]

Vessels originating within the Distant Fringe are very rarely encountered outside of the region. However, misjumps do occur and anomalies with bizarre spacetime and Jumpspace effects exist: as such, craft of this type are not entirely unknown within Charted Space.[4]

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Each vessel within the class is named by the government of the state that produces it. They generally draw on traditional naming protocols and it is not uncommon for a historical class name to be reused.

  • Individual vessels within the class are issued specific serial numbers and transponder codes.
  • Naming a ship is considered a serious affair and is generally accompanied by a traditional ceremony, usually pouring a local beverage over the bows of the craft. Starfarers tend to be superstitious folk and a ship with a frivolous name is considered "unlucky".
