The Stalwart class Corvette is a small fleet escort often tasked as a squadron courier/messenger vessel.
Description / Specifications[edit]
A small escort vessel serving with the 8th Fleet among others, this class protects fleet auxiliaries and is used by the admiralty to deliver fleet dispatches when longer range vessels are not available. They can interdict civilian vessels and perform fleet scouting missions. They are fast and agile but lightly armored and armed. They can not effectively engage enemy capital ships.
- The vessel is a TL 15 design.
Hull[edit]
The Corvette is constructed using a custom 700 dTon hull built in a fully streamlined conical structure. The ship is equipped with fuel scoops and on board purification. They are capable of ocean refueling. The hull is divided into seven decks and is heavily compartmentalized and reinforced. The jump 4 range is appreciated strategically, and its nimble evasive qualities are required to avoid enemy gunners achieving good firing solutions.
- Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.
- The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have basic and extended life support.
Engineering[edit]
The vessel mounts a jump-4 drive, a maneuver-6 drive, and a power plant 10, giving performance of jump-4 and 6G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6 and an emergency agility of 6. There is fuel tankage of 350 dTons, sufficient for a jump 4. The power plant has a four week duration. The size of the large power plant has a profound impact on the vessel's radiated signature. It can make it difficult to hide while fully powered up.
- The engineering section has a main control room.
- The jump drive utilises a lanthanum hull grid.
- The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
Main Section[edit]
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/9 fib and all work stations are equipped with dynamically reconfigurable, linked holographic displays. There are 11 staterooms, but no low berths. Cramped double occupancy accommodations are required for all crew. There is a tiny cargo hold aft, and the small Marine boarding party lacks orbital insertion capabilities and there are no sub craft carried.
- The vessel is fitted with radio, laser and maser system wide communications equipment, dedicated target acquisition LADAR, an advanced active and passive EMS sensor arrays, full ECM, and an avionics suite.
Crew[edit]
The Corvette requires 22 crew: Pilot, Navigator, 7 Engineers, 1 Medic, 6 Gunners and 6 Marines. Two officers, a CO and XO supervise 20 enlisted ratings.
Weapons[edit]
The ship has six weapon batteries. Six missile launch rails form the anti-shipping "torpedo battery." There are five all aspect, triple beam laser turrets. Each laser turret can track targets and fire independently. They can provide point defense anti-missile fire or be assigned to over watch allied vessels in convoys. They excel at close quarters combat. This warship is frequently authorized the use of nuclear ordinance to maximize its lethality.
Subcraft[edit]
The ship carries no sub craft, small grav vehicles can access the cargo deck, although this is not standard practice.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The admiralty elected to swap out fragile fleet couriers for these vessels in a few line squadrons. After the experimental phase was completed and the reports were filed, some persisted in their assigned roles despite any evidence against the wisdom of their deployment. These small vessels are used as the first combat command posting for recent naval academy graduates. Inexperienced, fresh from command college young ensigns and eager lieutenants often cut their teeth on these deployments. Wise old subsector fleet admirals and experienced personnel officers often post the most patient and well seasoned senior petty officers here to look after the bold young officers, for their own good.
Legend has it that due to a defense subcontractor glitch the ship computer's interactive holographic avatar is always a nubile female noted for her sultry voice. She was apparently ported over from some commercially available "entertainment" software and has an embarrassing tendency to answer questions with a "Yes or No, Master Chief" regardless of the sailor's actual rank.
