Talk:Trade classification/summaries
Pre-written UWP descriptor paragraphs (20 June 2015)[edit]
This is a page of pre-written UWP descriptor paragraphs to make it easy for players to mass copy & paste the trade classification summaries into planet pages and save a lot of time.
- To use them, open the edit page, and use the scroll bar to search the list (It's alphabetical). Then simple copy and paste into your planet page. Voila!
- I mass uploaded planet entries in 2015 and it saved me a lot of time.
- Hope it helps someone else out as well. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 09:52, 20 June 2015 (EDT)

Unclassified worlds (2015)[edit]
Neither of the descriptions you have for the (Unclassified world) are correct. These are worlds which don't fit into any of the established categories. They are not unknown unclassified, or insignificant. A better description would be:
World does not meet the criteria for any standard classification.
Tjoneslo (talk) 14:20, 26 June 2015 (EDT)
I have since updated the paragraph to reflect what you shared. Thank you. I would however mention that other definitions or codes seem to be warranted for the instances that I noted. Thank you. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 17:49, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
Don't add a space between section begin and '*' or it breaks the world summary bases template.[edit]
Don't add a space between the "section begin='XX'" tag and the '*'. The reason is the Template: World summary templates which query this page leave the space, and the result end up looking like:
* A preformatted text box and not in the list like it needs to be.
I know you like the spaces for readability, but this is one case where it breaks things. Tjoneslo (talk) 12:41, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- I noticed that you were creating a base text substitution program for bases. Is it ready yet? How do I use it if it is ready? the only reason I put the space is so that I can copy and paste the data. When it is all together, the copy and paste grabs everything and not just the text I need to complete the world entry. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 12:56, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- The Template:World summary bases is complete and in use. I wouldn't complain about your extra spaces if it were not causing problems. {{World summary bases|bases=N}} for an example. Tjoneslo (talk) 15:16, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- No problem. I understand and I don't think either of us wants to create problems for the other. Let's definitely cooperate. Two working together can achieve more than either working alone. Thank you for the example. I will start using the base text substitution. And I'll work on being able to successfully design text substitution code like you do. Thank you. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 17:49, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- P.S. I have started working on the Solomani Rim worlds you requested. I wrote you a letter which I will send you around 4:00pm PST. I want to get with your program and make the future world entries according to whatever was agreed upon. I want to cooperate and collaborate with you. Sorry if I didn't notice a decision had been made about those things or it hadn't been communicated to me. At any rate, I want to make this Wiki be a major asset for the community and I'm glad I am working with you on it. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 12:56, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- In other words, the space isn't about readability, but ease-of-use for a guy who has been entering dozens to over a hundred worlds a day on a near daily basis. Thanks! Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 13:03, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- The general rule should be if you are cutting and pasting large blocks of text, we should try and make them into templates. This means there is a much smaller amount of text to cut/paste, and we can fix the text in a lot of places if we decide it needs an update. Tjoneslo (talk) 15:16, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
- That's a fantastic idea and observation. I 100% agree. Let's do it. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2015 (EDT)
Oc Wa worlds do not exist (2015)[edit]
According to Don, via the clarification of the Trade codes for the T5 Second Survey, the "Oc" and "Wa" codes are exclusive, meaning any world should never have both codes. I know that in the process of the last several updates (all of which are in TravellerMap), all the worlds with these codes have been fixed to be either "Oc" or "Wa". We should remove the redundant codes from our table. Tjoneslo (talk) 11:13, 21 July 2015 (EDT)
- Thomas, I will start correcting codes such as Ni Oc Wa to whichever better applies to whereever they are: Either Ni Oc or Ni Wa. Maksim-Smelchak (talk) 15:17, 3 December 2015 (EST)
Using the "World summary comment" template (2015)[edit]
Instead of adding every possible combination of trade classifications to the table, I've split the some of the comments into a separate table. You can add these by using the Template:World summary comment template. For Example:
{{World summary|name=This world|trade=Ag Ga Ri}} {{World summary comment|trade=Cp}}
...produces:
This world is a rich, agricultural garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
I think this will reduce the need for so many entries in the table, and ensure more of the text is consistent.
- Tjoneslo, when you delete those entries, you also destroy all the worlds that used them. This world, for instance, Noricum (SR 2918) (world) looked great yesterday and now doesn't work. That's part of the choice you make when deleting otherwise good material. Many of those later "summary comments" do not have an obvious break-out point for many users, who don't have your experience. I really advise leaving those entries alone as they do not hurt things and you kill all entries that used them when you delete, Thomas. Your deletions yesterday killed a lot of Solomani Rim worlds that used them.
