Liaw is a nonindustrial, rich, agricultural world with improving living conditions due to a bustling agro-economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy is bustling and an increase in living conditions is expected in the near future.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Forquee Subsector of Massilia Sector in the Domain of Sylea.
- This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- About 80% of the population is composed of baseline humans and other non-human sophonts.
- Around 20% of the population is made up of Geonee.
- It is a member of the Forquee Cluster.
- At the founding of the Imperium this world was known as Gimi Kuuid.
- A clade of Jgd-ll-jagd inhabit the system's gas giants.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Liaw is a binary star system.
- The primary is an orange main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x5 gas giants.
- At least one of these has a settlement of Jgd-ll-jagd living within its atmosphere.
Mainworld Data
Mainworld Size (S)
Liaw is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Liaw has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Liaw has 75-85% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few large continents and extensive islands. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)
Liaw is a member of the Forquee Cluster, an important trade route lying within the sector.
The gas giants within this system form the hub of a relatively young clade of Jgd-il-Jagd. The clade was founded in 690 and now encompasses systems within four parsecs. The Imperium considers the Jgd a friendly associate species with autonomous government, mostly because establishing relations outside of simple trade is all but impossible.
The Liaw mainworld is noted for its extensive natural resources.
World Starport (St)
Liaw has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Imperial Naval Base.
World Population (P)
Liaw has a population of 9,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- About 80% of the population (roughly 7.2 million individuals) consists of baseline humans and other sophonts
- Around 20% of the population (approximately 1.8 million individuals) is made up of Geonee.
- Unknown numbers of Jgd-ll-jagd inhabit the system's gas giants.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Irkonee: The predominate language of the Geonee.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)
Liaw possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)
Liaw has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
- The world is controlled by a military junta.
Military
As a Jgd-inhabited system, the vicinity of at least one of the gas giants is patrolled by a number of their powerful vessels; these rarely take much interest in outside affairs unless Jgdi interests are threatened. Fuel-skimming a Jgd world is extremely unwise; shock waves from the pass may cause severe harm, and the Jgd are certain to retaliate with high-energy weapons fire.
World Law (L)
Liaw has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility
Liaw, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial baron.
