A language used by the Geonee race in the Third Imperium. It is sometimes known to mainstream Imperials as Gonk, though the Geonee don't approve of this.

Description[edit]

Geonee Sophont Solo Solomani & Aslan pg 24 Blair Reynolds.jpg

Most Geonee only speak Irkonee, although those who do choose to learn other languages typically learn Galanglic. The Geonee, despite being one of the Human races, don't think of themselves as "Humans" and indeed use the term "Human" rather disparagingly. Geonee culture holds to the belief that they are descendants of the Ancients. In fact, the word geonee means "old ones". The singular, adonee, is seldom used to refer to an individual member of the race. Instead, a Geonee will refer to himself as Geonee-draveera or "descendant of the old ones".

Variants[edit]

A variant form, sometimes considered its own language, is Genosha. This dialect contains many loan words, particularly from Oynprith, and is very adept with technical terminology, mathematics, and music.

Written[edit]

The Geonee language uses a written alphabet which can trace its origin to their distant past. The alphabet is best described as a form of cuneiform writing, and despite its apparent simplicity can impart the most complex concepts with remarkable elegance. The script shows similarity to the writings found in the Ancients sites within the Geonee Cultural Region, though it has undergone significant evolution. Naturally, the Geonee see this as just more evidence supporting their belief that they are descendants of the Ancients.
