Gandr is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and is also a low-population vacuum environment with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Gandr is an Asteroid Belt mainworld. It was once a major asteroid mining operation community working a very large copper lode. The easiest to access sources of copper have all been processed, and the community has declined in response.

Asteroid Belt 05.jpg

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Gandr is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

None of the bodies within the Gandr belt retain an atmosphere.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The Gandr belt contains a few icy bodies. A few belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held chart of the belt exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Certainly the least rewarding of all belts currently being exploited, Gandr owes most of its population to the chance discovery, in 1060, of a small deposit of superheavy elements. The belt quickly filled up with prospectors. Unfortunately, there have been no further discoveries. The population has declined to a tenth of its value at the height of the boom, and the belt is dotted with abandoned communities.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Gandr has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Gandr has a population of 8,000 sophonts (thousands).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.

Urbanization[edit]

The population live in communities tunneled into large planetoids.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Gandr possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Gandr is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law (L)[edit]

Gandr has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Gandr, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: 1 (ordinary)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 2 (hundreds)
  • Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
  • Efficiency: -3 (poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 3 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
  • Symbols: 8 (somewhat abstract)
