Description (Specifications)

The Passenger Liner is a large commercial transport commonly encountered along Star Lanes within the Distant Fringe region. It is classified as a Luxury Liner and is constructed as a conventional design. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.

General Description
The Horizon class Liner is a two part hull, with the aft section consisting of a streamlined upright wedge with a length of around 75 meters and a forward disk-shaped section with a diameter of around 35 meters. Some elements of the hull are narrower and some are wider, giving the vessel a total enclosed volume of approximately 81,000 cubic meters.

Fuel Tanks wrap around the central and rear sections of the ship. The cargo hold includes the cryogenic (low berth) section. Working sections of the vessel such as the laundry, the galleys and general crew quarters are located aft. Senior officers are accommodated forward, close to the bridge, while stewards have rooms close to passenger cabins. Middle passage accommodations are found in the less desirable midsection of the vessel while first class cabins are located in the rotunda, with windows offering spectacular views. The main commercial and leisure facilities are located in the forward core regions and are focused on the Grand Staircase and the upper rotunda.

The hull is streamlined, giving good atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems. Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. There are multiple airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp. The vessel has sturdy retractable landing legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	Total Crew Complement: x101 x11 command, x12 engineering, x7 gunnery, and x18 service, of which 6 double up as flight crew for the smallcraft when required. In addition, the vessel carries x50 stewards and x3 medical staff. Accommodations: There are 600 Staterooms. x65 Staterooms are given over to crew quarters. The command crew (and any celebrities working aboard the ship) have individual cabins: all other quarters are double occupancy. x400 Staterooms are available to Passengers. The stewards see to their needs. x135 staterooms are fitted out as shops and boutiques, entertainment complexes, casinos, spas and gymnasiums, restaurants, cafes, and other similar amenities. There are 200 Low Berths. The Low Berths are tended by the vessel's medical staff, assisted by properly trained stewards. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency. There are multiple Emergency Lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-3 drive, and a Power Plant-3, giving performance of Jump-2, 3-G acceleration, and producing 180 Energy Points. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 3. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-2 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 Computer: the vessel has a backup Model/4 Computer. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x60 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are considered standard for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific routes.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Passenger Liner is: x30 triple Beam Laser turrets, forming three batteries of 10 linked turrets
7.	Defenses	The hull is unarmored. x30 triple Sandcaster turrets, forming three batteries of 10 linked turrets The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x5 50-dTon Deliverance class Lifeboats. x2 40-dTon Songbird class Ship's Boats. The subcraft are housed in dedicated hangars located at strategic points around the vessel: the hangars can be sealed and have a total volume of 429 Tons.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 1,380 Tons. The hull is not fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is not equipped with fuel purification equipment.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr4,450.284 If multiple examples of the design are ordered all of the ships in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr3,560.228. The vessel and its subcraft are standard designs. Detailed architectural plans are widely available and no design fee is chargeable.
11.	Construction Time	123 weeks (29 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 360 Tons. The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems. Sections of the hold may be isolated if desired and can be provided with specialized environmental conditions, typically refrigeration.

History & Background (Dossier)

The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces. Passenger Liners generally follow predetermined routes, often with extended layovers at locations to allow tourism and sightseeing.
