Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Vindicator class Gunship is a warship.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Vindicator class was a combat vessel of the former Jelmiri Marches.

  • The class was operated by the Jelmiri Marches Navy.
  • The vessel was locally designed.
  • It was typically crewed by humans.
  • It was a TL–12 design.

General Description[edit]

The Vindicator class is a warship formerly deployed by the Jelmiri Marches - large numbers of the class were constructed and many examples can be still be encountered throughout the central and spinward parts of Theta Borealis Sector. The vessel has a fully streamlined cone hull and is fitted with fuel scoops and a fuel purification plant, allowing it to perform wilderness gas giant or hydrosphere refueling. The class has enough internal fuel for one Jump-3. Its performance (6-G and J-3) is considered excellent.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage / Hull The Vindicator class is constructed using a 600 dTon hull built in a conical configuration. The hull is fully streamlined and has good atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are reliant on its onboard gravitic systems.
2. Crew x15 personnel.
  • x1 Command Pilot, x1 Navigator, x8 Engineers, x1 Medic, and x4 Gunners.
    • The command crew consists of the Command Pilot / Captain.

Accommodations

  • There are 7.5 Staterooms.
    • Staterooms are constructed as "half rooms" (each of 2 dTons displacement) to afford crewmembers some privacy.
    • All Staterooms are given over to the crew.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-8, giving performance of Jump-3 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/6 fib computer. The vessel does not have a backup computer.

The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sophisticated sensor array, and has an avionics suite.

5. Hardpoints x6 hardpoints.
  • The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out for the Vindicator class is:

x1 dual fusion gun turret, forming its own battery.

x1 triple beam laser turret, forming its own battery.

x4 triple missile turrets, grouped into a single battery of 4 linked turrets.

7. Defenses The hull is plated, braced and structurally reinforced. It has an armor rating of 1.
  • The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8. Craft The vessel carries no subcraft or ship's vehicles.
9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 228 dTons.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr760.987
  • Architects Fee: MCr7.610
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr608.790
11. Construction Time 96 weeks to build, 77 weeks in quantity.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments The vessel does not have a cargo hold.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Vindicator class are constructed around a fully streamlined cone-shaped hull clad in light ferro-ceramic platelets that both protect the ship and help reduce micrometeoroid damage. The huge engineering section is equipped with reliable jump 3 Horizon drives, solid Maliplex 6G maneuver drives capable of an impressive 6 agility, and a truly massive Plasmadyne F-8 fusion reactor.

Build from the ground up as a gunship, this design mounts six hardpoints. There are a pair of Hellbent fusion cannons mounted in the nose, the dorsal turret mounts a Sentinel triple beam laser turret, and four turrets carry triple missile launchers mounting Predator class "barrage cluster" micro missile systems. These systems lend themselves to fully exploiting software like select, multi target, return fire, and functioning in a defensive interceptor anti-missile role.

  • The missile turrets are tied together and fire as a single battery.

This tough little ship is most commonly employed as a patrol craft, picket ship, and a commo relay, a role enhanced by both the powerful Model/6 Computer and the sophisticated onboard electronics array. It is packed to the gills with state-of-the-art naval architecture and modern machinery.

Production of Vindicators effectively ceased in 1100, following the Jaibok invasion of the Marches and the destruction of the naval construction yards at Jelmirt. Some vessels were destroyed during the invasion, a few joined the new regime, and some fled into the interior of Theta Borealis Sector, vowing to continue the fight and liberate their homeland from the Korsumug Empire.

A number of examples of the class serve with existing naval forces.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Vessel Peculiarities:
The class lack interface subcraft and cargo holds, meaning they require dedicated logistic support and frequent reprovisioning.

Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Jelmiri Marches did not use the alphanumeric designations common to other designs of the region, instead using only a "callsign" name.

  • Vindicator was selected as an easy to remember class name to identify the specific type of vessel.
  • Individual vessels were named by a committee using an authorized list.
