The Fecund class is a combat vessel of the Korsumug Empire.
- The class is operated by the Imperial Korsumug Navy.
- The vessel is a Jansa design.
- It is typically crewed by Jaibok.
- It is a TL–12 design.
Examples of the class serve with the Immortal Legion Fleet.
The Fecund class is an assault carrier, transporting landing craft and their fighter escorts, and has 1-G and J-3 performance. It is equipped with decent sandcaster defenses, electronic countermeasures and jamming gear, laser turrets that are most commonly used in a point defense role, and missile batteries that give it an offensive capability. The design is unstreamlined and cannot operate without either in-system facilities or support craft.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary.
|Basic Ship Characteristics |
|1.||Tonnage / Hull||The KE18c Fecund class Assault Carrier is constructed using a 1,800 dTon hull built in a dispersed structure configuration. The hull is unstreamlined and cannot operate in an atmosphere.|
There are 136 Staterooms.
|3.||Performance||The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-1 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-3, giving performance of Jump-3 and 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1 and an emergency agility of 1. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.|
|4.||Electronics||Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering.|
|6.||Armament||The normal weapons fit-out for a Fecund class is:|
|7.||Defenses||The hull has no additional armor.
|8.||Craft||The intrinsic subcraft or visiting vessels attach to the hull exterior. Docking tubes join to the cockpit or airlock, forming a pressure-tight seal and allowing crew or passengers to transfer between the two vessels without the need for vacc suits. The docking tube must be released and retracted before launch.
|9.||Fuel Treatment||The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 495 dTons.|
|10.||Cost||The basic cost of the vessel is MCr1,121.832
The price does not include the cost of the subcraft:
With its full complement of subcraft, a discounted Gravid class costs MCr1,237.754
|11.||Construction Time||125 weeks as standard, 100 weeks in bulk.
|12.||Comments||Standard cargo capacity amounts to 5 dTons.|
The Fecund class Assault Carrier is a relatively common type of warship used by the Korsumug Empire, serving as a troop transport. It carries troops to and from assignments and is also used in a supporting role in planetary assaults and invasions. Early low-jump examples of the class served on the Korsumug Main, where their ability to land and support large numbers of troops proved to be invaluable.
A number of redesigns with more powerful drives were fielded as the Korsumug Empire began to venture to worlds further from the Main. This ultimately resulted in the KE18c variant, equipped with a Jump-3 drive. Sacrifices had to be made in the original design to accommodate the increased fuel load, principally achieved by reducing the number of assault shuttles and troops fighters the vessel carried.
- Many of the vessels in the class are built at the naval shipyards on occupied Felspar.
- Fecund class carriers often pair with a Glutton class Transport, which carries vehicles and equipment.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
The vessel has below-average maneuver performance. It is not capable of independent operations.
- Earlier variants of the class were fitted with low berths in order to transport prisoners, a feature that has been removed as internal space issues have become more pressing.
Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KE refers to Korsumug Empire (a designation applied to all Korsumug combat units), 18 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'c' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Fecund' is an easy to remember name to identify the specific type of vessel.
- Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
