Description (Specifications)[edit]

Chart Provence Politics Basic.png

The Irrgh Manifest is a sizable and long-established interstellar state in Provence Sector. It is on generally good terms with the Dzarrgh Federate, lying to spinward, and with the Ngath Confederation, within Windhorn Sector to trailing. It is bordered to rimward by the rival Imperial Domain of Deneb. Its central regions are dominated by its sworn enemy, the Glory of Taarskoerzn. Irrgh-Taarskoerzn rivalry has existed since the earliest days of the state.

From its capital at Igunfaksa, the Irrgh Manifest has dominated regional politics since its inception.

The Manifest and the Glory of Taarskoerzn have eyed each other suspiciously for over 130 years. Both sides remain openly hostile towards one another:

  • The Manifest has made no secret of the fact that it intends to retake its one remaining "rebel province" and rejoin its divided territories.
  • The leadership of the Glory intends to reclaim its lost worlds and deliver Holy Vengeance upon the heretical Manifest, when "the right time is right".

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Irrgh Manifest, named after the treaty that created it, is a sizable and long-established interstellar state occupying the rimward portion of Provence Sector.

Its founding worlds were Igunfaksa and Dzarrvaer, who signed the Manifest in the early 400s and formally brought the state into being. The Manifest rapidly absorbed neighbouring neutral worlds as well as the Contract of Taarskoerzn, a small polity.

The Manifest was shaken by a series of political scandals and ongoing internal turmoil in the mid and late 800s. Taxation, inflation, shortages of basic commodities, a series of military defeats, and massive high-level fraud sparked unrest and even rebellions on worlds across its territory.

The former worlds of the Contract of Taarskoerzn, sensing the weakness of the Manifest, used the opportunity to break away. They formed an independent state, the Glory of Taarskoerzn, during the ongoing turmoil, formally seceding in 869. The act split the Manifest into two separate parts, the larger lying to spinward and the smaller lying to trailing. Despite a protracted war to reconquer the province the situation became a stalemate and led to an armistice. What began as a temporary ceasefire turned into a century and a half of tense, heavily armed standoff. Diplomacy and negotiations opened limited communications and trade across the region but it was never an easy peace, with frequent incidents and border clashes.

Government & Politics[edit]

The Irrgh Manifest government is characterized as having a high degree of centralization, which sets uniform policies that direct the entire multi-system state and largely disregards local/planetary differences.

Military Forces[edit]

The Manifest has a large, well-equipped navy that acts both as a defensive force and as a police agency, and an elite marine force. It fields a large armies, though most of its forces are widely garrisoned across its territory, holding down rebellious regions.

Later Eras[edit]

The Rebellion[edit]

The Irrgh Manifest is a heated enemy of the Glory of Taarskoerzn. Centuries ago the Taarskoerzn state was an independent polity and later became a province of the Manifest. It regained its independence long before the Rebellion began, bolstering its defences with hired mercenary and corsair forces. It was relatively wealthy: it collected taxes from its citizens and it held a strategic area of space along the spinward-rimward border of the Windhorn Rift, which generated income in the form of tribute.

In 1117, the Taarskoerzn government used its corsair and mercenary forces to drive a path into Irrgh territory and into the fragmented Imperium. The spinward half of the Manifest proved to be a tough target, and was able to form a loose alliance with the neighboring Dzarrgh Federate after early border disputes. Glory forces gradually departed the conflict, eager to seize the riches of the undefended Imperium, abandoning the war and effectively leaving the border between the two states unchanged.

The smaller trailing portion of the Manifest unsuccessfully sought alliances, and then struck into the former Imperial territories in Corridor Sector independently, in an effort to seize some of the riches its interstellar neighbours had acquired. Irrgh forces from the spinward portion of the Manifest began to move rimward too, laying siege to the human worlds in Corridor – a task which they adopted with great zeal.

Eventually the trailing fraction of Irrgh territory, weakened after years of hard fighting, became the target of Depot-backed Vaenggvae corsairs. As close associates of the Glory of Taarskoerzn and followers of the Church of the Chosen Ones, the Vaenggvae regarded the citizens of the Manifest as religious heretics. The Vaenggvae were particularly brutal when they raided, stripping entire communities, taking slaves, and humiliating the entrenched Irrgh leadership at every opportunity. There was little the Manifest worlds could do to resist them and the trailing state began to disintegrate, fragmenting into completely independent worlds or small defensive alliances.

The Collapse[edit]

The Irrgh Manifest fell to two waves of Virus. In 1134 the first wave passed up the edge of the Windhorn Rift, destroying the Empire of Varroerth the following year. In 1137 a second wave passed along the Corridor Sector. It reached the Dzarrgh Federate in Corridor Sector in 1137/1138.
