Dinomn is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Lanth Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This world has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
- Dinomn is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It lies close to the Abyss Rift, a region said to contain a strange space-time anomaly.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stars[edit]
Dinomn has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Dinomn is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Dinomn has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- Note: The high CO2 content of Dinomn's atmosphere, while making it an agricultural paradise, require precautions for exposed travellers such as a filter mask or a regime of blood-acidity pills. The process of protecting offworlders to the taint is rather unpleasant, whether through acclimatization or the use of drugs. Most visitors do not alight from the starport, and conduct their business by teleconferences.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Dinomn has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Dinomn is a Lost Colony, rediscovered and contacted in 498 after surviving the Long Night. Many ruins of the world before its decline can be seen around the planet. A fraction of the population survived the Long Night by concentrating solely on survival to the detriment of all other sensibilities. The Dinomnites are a hardy people who do not tolerate anything they see as frippery and merely decorative. Off-worlders and colonists are lumped into a single category of 'The Abandoners.'
World Starport (St)[edit]
Dinomn has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Scout Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Dinomn has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- Many families can trace their ancestry to Long Night-era settlers.
Urbanization[edit]
Dinomn's one major settlement is Dinomn City.
- It is surrounded by smaller satellite communities and vast ranches and farms.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Dinomn Anglic, a descendant of the form of Anglic spoken during the Long Night period.
- It has absorbed many modern words, terms, and phrases, and can generally be understood by speakers of Imperial Anglic.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Dinomn possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Dinomn is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
Dinomn is government by a council made up of members of The Thousand, direct descendants of the approximately 1000 souls to survive the world's decline. Those who are not from pure blood stock of these surviving families have no say in the governance of the world.
World Law (L)[edit]
Dinomn has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Dinomn, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.
