Choleosti is a low-population vacuum world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Vilis Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- The system is located in the Vilis Trace.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Choleosti is a binary star system.
- The primary is an orange main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld, a moon of the world's only gas giant
- x3 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 large gas giant named Monoda.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld is the largest moon of the large gas giant Monoda.
- Scientific researchers frequent the port to study Monoda's gigantic storm systems.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Cholesti is a Small World between 2,400km and 4,000km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.1G and 0.17G. The horizon will appear about 2.5km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Cholesti has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Cholesti has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The sole established facility within the system is the Cholesti Station. The Station survives by providing fuel and minor repairs to any and all who stop by.
The station is on the major moon of a large gas giant named Monoda. The giant world's atmosphere contains unusually high levels of contaminants, significantly increasing purification times and occasionally causing breakdowns in purification plants. The Cholesti Station has specially built purifiers that do not have this problem, which makes the refined fuel available at the station a far more attractive proposition. The station has more than one million tons of local fuel storage and has the capacity to skim around 100,000 tons per week. This huge capacity means even large Imperial fleets can rapidly refuel.
In exchange for refueling rights for Imperial Naval and scout vessels, the Imperium maintains a vessel on station in the system, complete with a platoon of well armed marines to 'assist' with keeping the peace. They patrol infrequently, usually staying in their small base adjoining the Station unless trouble breaks out. Choleosti is often thought of as a pirates haven, but receives enough business from the subsector navy to keep any potential pirates polite.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Choleosti has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Choleosti has a population of 10 sophonts (tens).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without significant outside assistance. This may represent a transient population such as the crew of a starship, the final survivors of a dying colony, an advance team setting up to receive colonists, or a small outpost where establishing a colony is not the primary objective.
The resident population lives in a subterranean facility and maintains the largely automated port. They are an extended family who have claimed part of Choleosti as their property While the permanent population is small, the actual number of people in the system at any particular time usually numbers in the hundreds.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Anglic, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Choleosti possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Choleosti has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
World Law (L)[edit]
Choleosti has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Choleosti, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
