Ao-dai is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development. Life here is drastically bleak.
- It is a member of the Zhodani Consulate in the Province of Iadr Nsobl, in the Jewell Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- It is a Binary World, a satellite of a slightly larger rocky world.
- This is a tidally-locked world with one side permanently locked to a gravity source and the other permanently facing away. Most commonly locked worlds are natural satellites of a larger planet or gas giant.
- It is a member of the Riverland Cluster.
- In the Zhodani Consulate this world is known as Ainzaia.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Ao-dai is a binary star system.
- The primary is an orange main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Ao-dai is the smaller component in binary planet pair.
- Its larger primary world is Ao-dai Prime, a heavily cratered vacuum world.
The mainworld and Ao-dai Prime orbit within the primary star's Habitable Zone.
- They lie within the zone's prime H region.
- They receive moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Ao-dai is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
- Tidal stresses generated by the world's larger binary companion cause frequent seismic activity.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Ao-dai has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Ao-dai has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Ao-dai is a moon orbiting Ao-dai Prime, a planet reduced to barren rock during the Ancients' war. As a result of the Ancient assault, most of Ao-dai Prime's atmosphere was blown off. A portion of this atmosphere was gathered by its moon, giving it a thin nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere and about 3% coverage of surface ice.
Ao-dai is very similar to Mars in its size and surface conditions. It was of little importance to the Zhodani for centuries until they discovered deposits of lanthanum in 660. With this discovery, the Consulate established a small colony and built a number of mining facilities to extract and process the ore. [2]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Ao-dai has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Ao-dai has a population of 3,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population almost entirely consists of Zhodani.
- Considered typical of their people, most of the Zhodani here are content with their lives on Ao-dai. They are indifferent to the few visitors that travel here; neither welcoming nor hostile.
Urbanization[edit]
The population lives in deep craters created by the asteroid bombardment.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani and the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Ao-dai possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Ao-dai is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
- The representative authority is the Ao-dai World Council.
The Zhodani Consulate maintains itself through a variety of taxes on goods and services. Each council -- planetary or higher -- has the authority to levy a tax on gross income to support services like hospitals, emergency and transport services, or the Tavrchedl'.
World Law (L)[edit]
Ao-dai has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Three broad categories of crime are recognized by the Zhodani Consulate: inadvertent, incited, and insane. The concept of premeditated crime for personal gain fits under the insane heading.
- Inadvertent crime is an unintentional violation or infraction of the law, resulting from inattention. For minor cases the usual punishment is a small fine.
- Incited crime is an infraction of a law brought about by another, often resulting from an overreaction to inadvertent crime or misfortune. The solution is re-education.
- Insane crime is a general heading for most major crimes against property or individuals.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
Most of the useful ore has long since been mined out. The few mining facilities that are still operational do bring in enough credits to help support the dwindling population.
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 4 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: 5 (concrete)
World Timeline[edit]

Later Historical Eras[edit]
The world received a major influx of Vargr refugees in the aftermath of the Collapse, and relations between the newcomers and the Consulate government have been rocky.
