  • The planet has no significant tectonic activity.
  • The land surface of the planet is dominated by rolling hills, vast plains and gentle valleys.
  • The planet, although not a reserve, is currently used as an "exclusive" resort hotel for the rich and famous who like to take their vacations away from the rest of society.

Mainworld Size (S)

Rode is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

  • The planet has been extensively surveyed and has a confirmed diameter of 11,704km
  • The planetary survey confirmed that Rode has a mostly rock core with a density of 0.68 standard.
  • Surface gravity on Rode has been measured as 0.625 standard.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Rode has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

  • Atmospheric pressure on the planets surface measured in bar is 0.56
  • Average mean temperature on Rode is 16.5c
  • Although breathing equipment is not required on Rode visitors usually need a few days to acclimatise.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Rode has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • c55% of the planets surface is covered in liquid water.
  • The planet has one "super continent surrounded by a single large ocean. The continent itself also has several small seas and lakes located upon it.

History & Background (Dossier)[3]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Rode lies on the Delphi Main, an important trade route straddling the border between Massilia Sector and Delphi Sector.

At the dawn of the Imperium this world had no permanent population. Facilities were being constructed and infrastructure was being emplaced, funded by speculators and investors in anticipation of large-scale settlement and commercial development and designed to give the world a predetermined basic Tech Level. There were often hundreds of personnel and specialists working or operating within the system, but they were not considered residents.

World Starport (St)

Rode has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • The starport at Rode has a small number of locals working within its facilities, however the majority of work at the facility is handled by robots of various types.

World Population (P)

Rode has population of 400 sophonts (hundreds).

  • This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
  • 96% of the planets population lives in the only "major" urban area on the surface that's located alongside a large lake surrounded by rolling hills in the northern hemisphere.
  • The major area is actually the hotel accommodation that consists of living quarters for staff and their families, the hotel complex itself and its associated buildings, recreation areas etc.
  • The citizens that live away from this area are actually still employees of the hotel but are usually operating from some of the more remote facilities for those guests that prefer complete isolation.

Linguistic Topography

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)

Rode possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
  • Rode has no manufacturing capability at all on the planet. It has the tools and equipment to carry out repairs and general maintenance but is entirely reliant on parts and materials to be brough to the planet from other systems.
  • The Tech Levels listed are for the items commonly found on the planet and do not reflect a capability of the population on Rode to produce their own. In addition it should be noted that the TL's for the most part are slightly lower than would be expected. This is driven by the need to obtain easily sourced parts from off world and this is often of a lower tech level.
    • High Common TL:B
    • Low Common TL:6
    • Further Subcategories:-
      • Energy TL:8 (Energy provision on the planet is provided by basic fusion reactors and power cells.)
      • Electronics TL:9 (Core Computers, Holographic projectors)
      • Manufacturing TL:9 (External fabrications)
      • Medical TL:9 (Spare part clones)
      • Environmental TL:9 (Underwater cities and early weather control)
      • Land Transport TL:9 (Superconducting mono-rail train)
      • Water Transport TL:9 (Autonomous ships)
      • Air Transport TL:9 (Grav car)
      • Space Transport TL:9 (M-drive, Jump 1)
      • Personal Military TL:9 (Laser Rifle)
      • Heavy Military TL:9 (Laser Gun, Grav Tank, Rail Gun)

World Government (G)

Rode is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

  • The planet of Rode is classified as having a Participating Democracy and this is true. Rules and legislation is agreed following the advice and consent of the citizens of the planet. The planet is in many ways a "play thing" for the Imperial noble who has established it as a vacation place for the rich who wish to get away from the hustle and stress of daily life. He leaves the day to day government of the planet to its population. As a result the local population led by the management team of the vacation complex make the decisions on the day to day running of their planet.
  • The government, for what it actually is, is defined as being Unitary with all main functions operating in a centralised approach.
  • The Authority is best defined as Legislative with clear rules and guidelines in place for all aspects of life on Rode.
  • The entire adult population has a role to play and do actively participate in decision making and establishment of legislation that affects the citizens and indeed visitors to the planet.

World Law (L)

Rode has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

  • Although there is no true "system of law" on Rode there are rules. These rules are akin to law levels as defined across The Imperium and as such they are defined below. There is no law enforcement organisation on Rode but there is security who will act against those who break the rules. If an individual commits serious crime there are locations that can be secured where an individual can be held until such time as a ruling can be determined regarding their fate. This is usually overseen by the Imperial Noble who owns the onsite facility and it is upon their decisions that an individual may simply be deported or taken elsewhere for trial / punishment.
  • To establish if an offence has taken place the hotel senior management will usually meet with the accused and the accusers and make an initial judgement. The approach is universal across both those who live on the planet and those who are visiting.
  • Its important to note that individuals are always assumed to be innocent and that disputes are usually a result of a misunderstanding.
    • Overall Level: 0
    • Weapons and Armour: 0 (No restrictions)
    • Economic: 0 (No contract law or licences required)
    • Criminal Law: 0 (No formal legal system)
    • Private Law: 1 (Duelling is restricted, contract law is enforceable)
    • Personal Rights: 0 (No restrictions)

Imperial Landed Nobility

Rode, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

Trade Data

  • Importance: 1 (ordinary)
  • Additional Economic indicators:-
    • Gross World Product per Capita: 3,800cr
    • World Trade Number: 5
    • Inequality Rating: 62
      • c.62% of the population are living at a lower standard than the rest of The Imperium would find acceptable. These individuals are in roles that are traditionally seen as menial or lower grade roles. In addition such individuals and their families are likely to be living in older, substandard facilities and having to work extended hours to provide for themselves.
    • Development Score: 1
    • Tariffs - Free Trade Zone

World Economy

  • Resources: 7 (few)
    • The planet does have a wide array of natural resources however it lacks the infrastructure or indeed population to exploit them at all. Its place in the subsector as a "Vacation Spot" means that at least for now its unlikely that anybody is going to look at exploiting any resources that are there.
  • Labor: 1 (tens)
    • The planets low population restricts the labour pool to a small number. Operating on the planet there are however almost twice as many robots as there are humans who carry out a lot of the basic menial lifting and handling workload.
  • Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
    • Almost no infrastructure outside of the starport and "hotel complex" exists.
  • Efficiency: -3 (poor)

World Culture

  • Heterogenity: 1 (monolithic)
    • Due to the small population on Rode the culture is consistent with almost no diversity.
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
    • The general population appear to visitors as welcoming due to the role their society plays, however, the majority of locals who do not have to interact directly with visitors avoid spending any time with them and stay with their own local community.
  • Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
    • The culture of Rode is very stereotypical of the majority of worlds across The Imperium.
  • Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
    • For the most part there is no difference on Rode with symbology as used across The Imperium.
