The very first RPG I ever purchased for myself was the Traveller Boxed Set sometime around 1982/1983 from a Games Workshop store in Birmingham,UK. I recall taking this game back to my aunts house where I was visiting during my school summer holidays, reading the black books and within 4 hours running my first game. Fair to say it was awful but my two cousins and aunt seemed to enjoy the game they played in and I fell in love with the game.
Over the years i've owned every iteration of the game but only ever ran "one offs" and never managed to get a campaign up and running.
Move forward to 2020 and the covid pandemic hitting the world. Lockdown and other personal life impacts forced me to review my gaming and what was or was not possible. I decided to start buying back into Traveller and actually focus my efforts on creating something worthwhile that i and others could actually use. Matzen Sector was born. I wanted a play place to call my own and allow others to do the same.
Feel free to message me as im always open for collaboration on developing the sector further. As of 1st March 2022 the sector has never been exposed to players or indeed stories. Id love to do it but im also keen for others to feel like they can too.
The one trait of Matzen that I'm trying to keep at its heart is that everything contained within the sector is entirely at the whim of random rolls or random generators eg names. Every stat was randomly rolled with derived stats etc from those random rolls. Every world and system name generated from random generators. This is forcing me to drop preconceived ideas and focus entirely on the "now".
Moving forward to 2024. Im now working with support from Ade Stewart and Maksim Smelchak to add much more depth to the Massilia Sector. This sector although significant in terms of location and history has seen very little in the way of concentrated development or input, as such id like to change that. By developing the sector one world at a time and adding a lot more information im hoping that Massilia becomes home to campaigns and stories for years to come.
