General Description

The Virulent class is a capable combat vessel with 4-G and J-3 performance. Its primary armament is a huge missile bay, able to land a devastating blow against almost any opponent. It has an unconventional shape, consisting of two separate hull pods joined by a series of solid struts.

  • It carries a squadron of seven Hostility class Fighters.

Basic Ship Characteristics

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Basic Ship Characteristics [2]
No. Category Remarks
1. Tonnage / Hull The KE12c Sarash class Destroyer is constructed using a 1,200 dTon hull built in a dispersed structure configuration, consisting of two large offset pods connected by thick struts. The hull is unstreamlined and is not capable of wilderness refueling.
2. Crew x81 personnel.
  • x7 command, x4 engineering, x6 gunnery, x31 flight, x3 service, x30 marines.
    • The command crew consists of the Captain, the Executive Officer, two electronics officers (commo and sensor ops), two pilot/navigators, and a medical officer.
    • Each crew section has a senior officer.

Accommodations

  • There are 52 Staterooms.
    • Staterooms are configured to what the Jaibok consider to be comfort.
    • All Staterooms are given over to the crew. 12 are single occupancy and are set aside for command personnel and the marine officer: the remaining 40 are either double occupancy or turned over to other uses.

Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.

  • There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off.
  • There are multiple emergency lockers.
3. Performance The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-4 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-3 and 4-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 3 and an emergency agility of 4. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for One Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
  • The engineering section has a main control room.
  • The jump drive utilizes a hull grid.
  • The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4. Electronics Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering.
5. Hardpoints x12 hardpoints.
  • The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6. Armament The normal weapons fit-out for a Sarash class is:

x1 100-ton Bay mounting heavy Missile launchers.

x2 triple Beam Laser turrets, typically grouped into a single battery of 2 linked turrets.

7. Defenses None.
8. Craft The intrinsic subcraft or visiting smallcraft attach to the hull exterior and docking tubes join to the cockpit or airlock, allowing crew or passengers to transfer between them without the need for vacc suits.

Flight Section:

x10 10 dTon Vendetta class fighters. Each fighter has two crew.

Vehicles:

x2 9-dTon Jaibok class Gcarriers

9. Fuel Treatment The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 408 Tons.
10. Cost The basic cost of the vessel is MCr899.0
  • Architects Fee: MCr8.99
  • If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr719.2

The price does not include the cost of subcraft or vehicles:

  • x10 Vendetta class Fighters cost MCr161.68 (including a bulk order discount).
  • x2 Jaibok class Gcarriers cost MCr6.75 (no discounts apply).

With a full complement of subcraft, a discounted Sarash class costs MCr887.63

11. Construction Time 132 weeks as standard, 106 weeks in bulk.
  • Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12. Comments The vessel has no cargo capacity.
  • The vessel has adequate onboard storage space for supplies and equipment.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Sarash class destroyer is an ubiquitous type of warship used by the Korsumug Empire, typically serving as a major component in a patrol force. Early low-jump examples of the class served on the Korsumug Main, where their powerful missile battery gained them a reputation for punching far above their weight.

It was designed by the Jansa, a minor race closely allied with the Jaibok.

A number of redesigns with more powerful drives were fielded as the Korsumug Empire began to venture to worlds further from the Main. This ultimately resulted in the KE12c variant, equipped with a Jump-3 drive.

Examples of the Sarash class can be encountered throughout Mavuzog Sector and Theta Borealis Sector.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities

Vessel Peculiarities: The vessel is entirely reliant on support craft (such as tankers) for refuelling. As such, they are most commonly deployed in a defensive role.

  • Sarash class vessels rarely serve as raiders.

Class Naming Practice/s: Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KE refers to Korsumug Empire (a designation applied to all Korsumug combat units), 12 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'c' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential.

  • 'Sarash' is an ancient Terran nickname given to someone who is always complaining about unfair rules.

Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
