Marava is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Wovoka Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.

Mainworld Data
Marava is a standard-sized world with a thin atmosphere and abundant hydrosphere in the form of a world ocean and icecaps. The atmosphere has a relatively large amount of water dissolved into it and entrained within it, resulting in almost constant fogs and mists.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
There are normal amounts of mountain ranges on the 2 moderate-sized continents. 2 extensive archipelagos were observed during orbital scans, but not visually verified.

History & Background (Dossier)
Marava is a member of the Orient Worlds, a small group of systems in the spinward-rimward corner of Wovoka Subsector.
Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Solomani State and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, while many see it as an act of duty to help protect the the State and its interests.
World Starport
Marava has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Marava maintains an adequate downport on an isolated plateau about 50km from the small, coastal Capitol, connected by a maglev train.
Marava Highport exists, but it is a primitive space station holding approximately 8 to 10 personnel at any given time, with capacity for up to 16 in times of need. As a member of the Scout Service, I paid the Highport a port call, and exchanged gifts and food. Nice folks, but they appeared to be bored out of their minds. Still, it made the worldnet news and got me free resupply, information, and meals in exchange for a quick supply run to their Highport. Generally, they were interested in normal news for about a week, then they lost interest in me.
World Technology Level
Marava possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government
Marava is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
World Law Level
Marava has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Be advised that the rate of suicides and periodic mass killings is higher than most worlds, perhaps due to the depressing lack of regular sunlight for humaniti sophonts.
World Military
Marava maintains a ground Army, primarily for training their youth and responding to disasters. Its wet Navy is more extensive, with at least 2 nuclear fleets with modern weaponry, jet interceptors, and orbit-capable missiles (barely). Both fleets are dedicated to the populated continent.
World Economy
Marava is a comfortable agricultural/aquacultural world.
Trade Data
Food stuffs, waterice blocks.
World Demographics
- Humaniti (Solomani): 95%
- Dolphin: 5%
World Culture
Maravan culture is divided into 3 or 4 castes, with the upper caste portraying themselves as something like nobility, but not quite. The old word "snooty" seems to fit between any given 2 castes' interactions.
Urbanization
Marava has a small, coastal Capitol, connected by a maglev train to its Downport. This train may be the only infrastructure outside of the Capitol urban zone. The Capitol maintains an extensive harbor and shipyard.
Trade Data
- Importance: -1 (unimportant)
World Economy
- Resources: 7 (few)
- Labor: 5 (hundreds of thousands)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely limited)
World Culture
- Heterogenity: 6 (harmonious)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: 8 (very confusing)
- Symbols: 5 (concrete)
