Tizon is a rich world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system supports a population in the 100's of millions, which makes it too urbanized to make an agricultural world. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.
Astrography & Planetology
Tizon is a member of the Spinward Main., specifically the Gram Arm.
Tizon has two stars, the primary El Cid, and its companion Bucar. Tizon orbits at a distance of 2.0 AU. Tizon has two small moons, though neither have significant installations.
Tizon's primary is an evolving K2 IV star, which has become considerably brighter in the last 100 million years. Tizon was once uninhabitable, a Mars-like ball of rock that was well outside the system’s habitable zone; it only warmed as the primary brightened.
Binary Solar System
Mainworld Data
Tizon has two continents: the larger one, Treskaginir, covers most of the northern hemisphere, while a smaller one, Noeglen, takes up half of the south. The world is rich in minerals, with mining communities scattered all over the planet. Tizon's climate is chilly, so the population is concentrated near the equator, particularly around the Athskilinn Sea, a large inland sea that separates central Treskaginir from Noeglen.
Tizon has a dense oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere with almost perpetual cloud cover (only 10% of the planet receive direct sunlight at any given moment), resulting in a chilly climate. Tizon was subject to a fairly successful terraforming program by the Darrians before being abandoned in the wake of the Maghiz disaster. As such, Tizon actually supports some of the last surviving populations of native Darrian species that are extinct on their own homeworld.
History & Background (Dossier)
Historically Tizon has been one of the most important of the Sword Worlds, and in the past it has built an empire big enough to make it a power almost comparable to Gram (Spinward Marches 1223). Today Tizon pours its energy towards trade, science, and art.
World Starport
Tizon has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The Downport is known as Osgihamn Starport.
- Tizon Highport has an extensive commercial sector and caters to large numbers of passengers. It is a tourist destination in its own right, with a resort sector containing some of the best hotels, theatres and entertainment establishments in the Sword Worlds.
World Languages
- Sagamaal: The common tongue of the Sword Worlds Confederation. Its name references the intent that it evoke the language of ancient sagas of northern Terra -- or at least an idealised understanding of those cultures.
Urbanization
The capital city is Ny Eital.
World Government (G)
Tizon is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
World Law Level (L)
Tizon has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)
Tizon possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
Trivia
Military personnel from Tizon came to live in the region of Tarsus known as Regiment.
Followers of Beriel Andreesen, a failed claimant to the throne of the Tizon Empire, colonised the world named Beriel, in Beyond Sector, in his honour.
Tizona (also Tizón) is the name of one of the medieval swords carried by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid, according to the Cantar de Mio Cid.
