Sensor Vehicles are used in area away from the front line while Reconnaissance Vehicles are deployed at the front. Both ar ethere to gather information for the purposes of identifying, tracking and targeting enemy (or potential enemy).
Sensor Vehicles are often deployed in pairs or triplets to allow triangulation of directional information to better localise targets. The sensors are often separated from the weapons platforms that they support because both sensors and launchers are a priority target for attacking elements, and both active sensors and active weapons are easily detected. Loss of sensors and weapons will occur at the same time if on the same Vehicle.
