Patrol Vessel
HTP-class Patrol Vessels are used to defend and protect star systems or other high value real estate.
- The Supraclass designation is also known as Ship Mission, Ship Mission Code, Mission, or Ship Hull Designation.
- It is a starship supraclass.

Description (Specifications)[edit]
H-class Vessel's are not intended for offensive operations, they instead defend and secure fixed locations, almost always mainworlds and their associated star systems. These missions are considered paramilitary by the dominant thoughts of naval strategists within Charted Space. Patrol and Surveillance ships largely observe space, keeping track of things that are there and watching for things that aren't supposed to be.

Strategy & Tactics (Doctrine)[edit]
H-class Vessels have two major taskings:
- Defensive Warfare
- System Security
They are generally considered secondary naval combatants even when they form the first line of defense against enemy fleets. Their inability to conduct primary naval offensive operations is the strategic reason why they are considered secondary naval combatants.

Supraclass Archetypal Roles[edit]
These vessels typically serve the following archetypal roles:
HT-class Patrol Vessel Supraclass Archetypes | |||
---|---|---|---|
Archetype | Type Code/s | Exemplar | Remarks |
Police Ship | HP | Stenka class Security Vessel | Police Ships police a star system. They are meant to uphold the laws of a controlling mainworld, typically a world-state. They patrol the inner and outer systems, but rarely the far system. They conduct patrols to discourage piracy, conduct customs inspections, and numerous other related tasks. Most tend to be boats, as in system craft with jump drives, but a few are equipped with jump drives to chase offenders out of the system. Many of these craft are seconded to subsector navies when need arises. These are considered paramilitary ships. |
Patrol Vessel | HT | Lurushaar Kilaalum class Corvette | Patrol Ships (sometimes AKA Patrol Boats) are usually smaller vessels, lightly armed or unarmed, but generally with plenty of sensors, designed to maintain order in an area of space among people and ships who are inclined to be orderly in the first place. They tend to be used for space-traffic, safety and compliance patrols in areas without a lot of armed threats; a Patrol Boat may have enough firepower to deter minor threats, but isn't usually employed in places where even minor threats are likely.
|
Patrol Fighter | FP | Kirchner class Patrol Fighter | Patrol Fighters are craft designed to operate for long duration over space or atmosphere in patrol roles, in particular combat air patrol (CAP), reconnaissance roles (Recon), anti-ship warfare (AShW), and search and rescue (SAR). A combat air patrol is a patrol provided over an objective area, over the force protected, over the critical area of a combat zone, or over an aero defense area (COACC), for the purpose of intercepting and destroying hostile craft and ships before they reach their target/s.
|
Surveillance Scout / Intelligence Vessel | SI | Gishiash class Stealth Scout | Surveillance Ships generally are focused on monitoring less-friendly areas - border regions, semi-denied and occasionally denied territory. Their primary "weapon" is a comprehensive sensor and computer fit; their primary defense is stealth and passive defense. Surveillance scouts often serve intelligence roles, picket roles, and observation roles, monitoring certain parts of space or certain groups and places of interest.

NOTES: There is semantic overlap between many of the classes and codes. Some codes organize by mission or capability, others by size and tonnage, and yet others by other characteristics. |
