Kirn is a poor, low-population desert world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- This world has no free-standing water.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Gaussi Subsector of Zarushagar Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
- It lies on the Huon Arm of the Greater Massilia Main.
- This world has also been known as Yulanii.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Kirn has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld (second planet)
- x8 secondary rocky worlds
- Kirn AKA Yulanii has a large natural satellite, named Yulanwatay, that possibly qualifies as a twin planet. There are also seven other rock worlds.
- x3 gas giants: One in the sixth orbital position, two at extreme distance in the outer system.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Kirn is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Kirn has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Kirn has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
- What moisture there is on this world has been locked in the frost caps at either pole and deep in the ground. Deep aquifers enrich certain regions, such as oases of primitive trees. Swatches of green on the surface betray the existence of the underground lakes, and are the only significant sanctuaries for native life.
- These lakes are more frequent near the perimeter of the northern frost cap.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
There is virtually no tectonic activity. The northern hemisphere is marked by low hill country, stony and difficult to traverse. The south features black sand deserts that stretch from the pole to just short of the equator.
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
There are few species of note; this is a world of scrub grasses and insects. The native Tekundu were always aware that this was not their true homeworld, since they do not fit the pattern of life here.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Kirn lies on the Huon Arm, the rimward branch of the Greater Massilia Main.
This is the homeworld of the Tekundu. In the first decades of the Third Imperium, there was a larger population. Being possessed of a sense of racial destiny divorced from their homeworld, and being most comfortable when "water-fat" as a consequence of enduring their arid world, most Tekundu migrated to other Imperial worlds over the centuries.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Kirn has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Kirn has a population of 5,000 sophonts (thousands).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without a little outside assistance. This may represent the home base of a sizable but mostly transient population such as the base of a major starship expedition, the last generation of a dying colony, the first generation of a new colony, or a large outpost that will probably evolve into a colony if not stopped.
- The population consists of Tekundu.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Core Anglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Tekundu native dialects.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Kirn possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government (G)[edit]
Kirn is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
- Leadership is derived from the strongest Tekundu families, measured in loyalty and emotional stability. Family leadership is most often attributed to the strongest male, but there are no firm rules in this regard.
World Law (L)[edit]
Kirn has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Kirn, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 1 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 2 (hundreds)
- Infrastructure: 1 (extremely limited)
- Efficiency: -1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 1 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 4 (extremely aloof)
- Strangeness: 3 (somewhat typical)
- Symbols: 9 (somewhat abstract)
