Gyomar is a moderate population fluidic hellworld with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts, who are struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by indigenous Sophonts located in the Cronor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- This is a frozen world, with a climate of extremely low temperatures.
- It is the homeworld of the Tethmari.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Gyomar has a solitary primary star.
- It is a blue-white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Gyomar orbits within the outer system.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Gyomar is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Gyomar has a Corrosive Atmosphere and possesses a concentrated gas mix or unusual temperature which requires the use of a Hostile Environment Suit or Vacc Suit. TL–9 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences very low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Gyomar has 15-25% of its surface covered by a fluid other than water. Wilderness refueling is not possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- This surface fluid may be ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids depending on the local temperature and environment.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Despite Gyomar's -120°C mean temperature and tremendous atmospheric pressure, the world has a rich biosphere populated by ammonia-based life forms.
- Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in very low temperatures.
- They will rapidly die in environmental conditions suitable for humans.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Native Sophont: Tethmari[edit]
Gyomar is the homeworld of the Tethmari, a race of non-humanoid ammonia breathers that thrive in extremely cold environments.
The Tethmari have developed a starport to encourage trade, but the world’s very low temperatures and extremely high atmospheric pressure means that either Tethmari or humans must wear encounter suits in order to meet one another.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Gyomar has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Gyomar has a population of 800,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population almost entirely consists of Tethmari.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Local Tethmari languages.
- Riftian Galanglic, a dialect of one of the two principal languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two principal languages of the Imperium.
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Gyomar possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Gyomar is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Law (L)[edit]
Gyomar has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
