General Description

The Cerberus class is a lightly armored combat craft with 5-G and J-3 performance. It is slightly flattened, slightly elongated sphere that carries a mixture of weaponry and is able to hold its own in a firefight.

The hull is partially streamlined and has moderate atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are reliant on its onboard gravitic systems. Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. There are x2 personnel airlocks. The subcraft hangar may be used as an additional airlock. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings. The design is a tail-sitter.
2.	Crew	x25 personnel. x5 command, x2 engineering, x7 gunnery, x2 flight, x1 service, and x8 marines. The command crew consists of the Captain, the Executive Officer, an electronics officer (commo and sensor ops), a pilot/navigator, and a medical officer. Each crew section has a senior officer. Accommodations There are 15 Staterooms. All Staterooms are given over to the crew. 5 are single occupancy and are set aside for selected command personnel and the marine officer: the remaining 10 are double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-5 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-5, giving performance of Jump-3 and 5-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 3 and an emergency agility of 5. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. The jump drive utilizes a hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sophisticated sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package and Jamming Equipment. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.

6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Cerberus class is: x2 triple Beam Laser turrets, grouped into a single battery of 2 linked turrets. x2 triple Missile turrets, grouped into a single battery of 2 linked turrets. Each launcher mounts standard Anti-Shipping Missiles.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, braced and structurally reinforced. It has an armor rating of 3. x1 triple Sandcaster turret, forming its own battery. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section: x1 10-dTon Servant class Launch. The subcraft is housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 10 dTons.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 175 dTons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant, capable of refining all onboard fuel in a few hours.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr510.798 If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr408.639 The price does not include the cost of the subcraft: x1 Fetch class Launch costs MCr6.16 (discounts apply on bulk orders, reducing the cost to MCr4.928). With its subcraft, a discounted Cerberus class costs MCr413.567
11.	Construction Time	80 weeks as standard, 64 weeks in bulk. Architects Fee: MCr5.108 Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 3 dTons. The hold has independent life support and environmental systems. It can be sealed and isolated.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Cerberus class Gunboat is a common type of small warship. There are no exact records of the number that have been built.

Earlier variants of the class were fitted with low berths in order to transport wounded crew or prisoners, a feature that has been removed as internal space issues have become more pressing. The additional free space is used as cargo storage.

Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
