Atsa has a very thin atmosphere and very little surface water. The system has a population between 10 million and 100 million sophonts. This world contains an archaeological site with artifacts suspected to be from the now-vanished Ancients. This world is designated an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Zhodani Consulate in the Cronor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Province of Iadr Nsobl. This world supports a Zhodani Military Base and the system supports a Zhodani Naval Base.
In the Zhodani Consulate this world is known as Brefrie.
- It is considered to lie within the Cronor Cleft.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Atsa is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Atsa is a poorly developed world and much of the planet's surface is rugged badlands and cold desert with only a few scattered settlements.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Atsa is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Atsa has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Atsa has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Atsa is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
The system is considered part of the Cronor Cleft, a small but strategically important rift dominating the central part of Chronor Subsector. The interstellar medium - the ephemeral gas and dust that fills the empty space between star systems – is significantly less dense in the region around Atsa. This lower density area is broadly spherical, with a diameter of around 2.5 parsecs and with Atsa's white primary star roughly at its center. It is sometimes referred to as the Atsa Bubble.
It is a poorly developed world, with the population mainly clustered around the large downport and surrounding industries. The world is mainly important as a naval installation and communications link, with several squadrons of courier ships stationed in-system. A naval squadron backs up the considerable system defenses.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Atsa has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Atsa has a population of 80,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
- The population is almost entirely composed of Zhodani.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Zdetl, the common language of the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Atsa possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Atsa is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.
The Zhodani Consulate maintains itself through a variety of taxes on goods and services. Each council -- planetary or higher -- has the authority to levy a tax on gross income to support services like hospitals, emergency and transport services, or the Tavrchedl'.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Atsa has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).
Three broad categories of crime are recognized by the Zhodani Consulate: inadvertent, incited, and insane. The concept of premeditated crime for personal gain fits under the insane heading.
- Inadvertent crime is an unintentional violation or infraction of the law, resulting from inattention. For minor cases the usual punishment is a small fine.
- Incited crime is an infraction of a law brought about by another, often resulting from an overreaction to inadvertent crime or misfortune. The solution is re-education.
- Insane crime is a general heading for most major crimes against property or individuals.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 3 (ordinary)
World Economy[edit]
The currency of the Zhodani Consulate is the Abradlnad. Exchange rates with the Imperial Credit (Cr) vary depending largely on the political situation.
- Resources: A (abundant)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: C (very extensive)
- Efficiency: +5 (very advanced)
World Culture[edit]
The Zhodani Consulate promotes the belief system of Tavrziansh, Morality's Path.
- Heterogenity: 9 (discordant)
- Acceptance: A (very friendly)
- Strangeness: 7 (confusing)
- Symbols: C (very abstract)
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- The Year 0: the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 589-604: First Frontier War.
- 604-622: the Civil War.
- 615-620: Second Frontier War.
- 624: the Express Boat Network is established.
- 800-820: the Psionics Suppressions.
- 979-986: Third Frontier War.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1082-1084: Fourth Frontier War, also known as the False War.
- 1107-1110: Fifth Frontier War.
= Fifth Frontier War[edit]
Atsa's significance as a refueling point on the Chronor approaches was amply demonstrated in the closing stages of the Fifth Frontier War, when an Imperial deep-strike squadron from Quar attacked the system, intending to secure refueling facilities for the following assault squadron, which was engaged in a daring attempt to attack Chronor itself. Despite the assault force managing to gain a foothold at the starport, the attempt was unsuccessful, and the attackers withdrew. The port has since been rebuilt and greatly strengthened to resist a future attempt.
The damage caused in the Battle of Atsa is still evident, and security is very tight at the port. A project is under way to salvage the orbital debris from the action. Scientific craft and tugs are in constant activity around the system.
