System[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Skipped over in the First Survey and barely charted in the Second, 567-908 remained a backwater just outside the borders of the Imperium. The planet is divided into two major landforms, a desert continent that stretches across half the planet, and a huge mountain range surrounding a single large ocean. While technically habitable, the planet's very thin oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere and constant, unpredictable volcanism make the world unappealing for colonization.

Until the discovery of its native sentient species, it was considered one of the most useless pieces of real estate in the Spinward Marches.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

567-908 is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

567-908 has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

567-908 has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

The ecosystem lacks the biodiversity of many habitable planets, but species are often stunningly beautiful, or have adapted uniquely to fill an isolated niche. Many have iridescent body parts or produce gem-like by-products, the most famous being the eggs of the native sophont species.

Native fauna include the following:

  • Solitary hunters that eat small rodent- and insect-like creatures. They crawl up hills and mountainsides to perches, spot their prey at distance with their impressive eyesight and then drop, gliding in for the kill.
  • Herd animals that extract nutrients from earth and plant life with an array of suckers on their undersides. The hump on their backs serves as a head of sorts, with four protruding stalks that detect nerve pulses at a range of up to 50 metres.
  • Hunting animals that travel in groups of 7-12, working together to subdue prey.
  • Pellet voles: Small rodent-like creatures that fill two large, subdermal pouches running along each side of their body with food, regurgitating it in the form of small, highly compressed pellets when safe in their burrow. The Shriekers have domesticated the voles, both as a meat animal and as an easy source of refined sugars.
  • Denuli songbats: These resemble Terran bats only slightly, and more closely resemble furred owls. Openings in the bat's forehead catch the passing air and produce notes, the pitch and volume varying with the wind and the speed of the creature.
  • Spider slugs: Massive, slow-moving omnivores, their eight limbs hidden under layers of fatty flesh. They are a danger to smaller wildlife, including children. The slug can cough up sticky, rubbery mucus that it shoots at faster prey.
  • Thingvellir's Crested Trapper: This beautiful creature resembles a large spider with glittering translucent wings.

Native Sophont: Shriekers[edit]

The Shriekers are a nomadic race ruled by a class of priests. They live in the last Shrieker city, The Great Retreat.

  • They know their world as Shvreeyiyi.

Their location in the system presents questions. The primary star hasn't been in its current phase long enough to evolve Native Intelligent Life; the hypothesis therefore is that the Shriekers are descended from an ancient colony. The source world is unknown; it is possible that the homeworld was in the inner system, which burnt to cinders millions of years ago when the star began expanding.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

567-908 is the homeworld of the intelligent race known as the Shriekers, and as a result the Scout Service is building a new base to study them, after their discovery by a Mora businessman named Kafka Thingvellir in 1110.[3]

The discovery of Denuli Crystals on the world in the late 400s produced a rush to mine these gemstones. The rush was checked by the Scout Service and Naasirka.

World Starport (St)[edit]

567-908 has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

567-908 is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.

  • Shriekers, a native sophont species, have recently been discovered to inhabit the world. Their population levels are not known.
  • Scout Service personnel are studying the race. The world's UWP social details won't be updated until more is known about them.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

567-908 is believed to possesses a Tech Level of TL–0.

  • The world is not thought to have a technological base.

World Government (G)[edit]

567-908 is believed to have no government or ruling authority.

World Law (L)[edit]

567-908 is believed to have no law level. No laws are known to be enforced.

  • Importance: -3 (very unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 2 (very scarce)
  • Labor: 0 (undetermined)
  • Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
  • Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)

World Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:

Later Eras[edit]

In later eras the system's name is changed in survey databases.

It is designated Shvreeyiyi in 1201, then Denuli from 1248 onward.
