Afoe is a non-agricultural, pre-industrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- Its economy and population are slowly growing and living conditions are expected to improve in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Ngath Confederation in the Voenggaks Subsector of Windhorn Sector, within the Vargr Extents. The population is primarily Vargr.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- This world has a Vargr Corsair Base.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Afoe has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Afoe is a Small World between 2,400km and 4,000km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.1G and 0.17G. The horizon will appear about 2.5km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Afoe has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Afoe has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Afoe was originally claimed by the Vilani more than eight millennia ago and was eventually absorbed into the Ziru Sirka. It was nominally under the authority of the Rule of Man prior to the Long Night.
- It has Ziru Sirka-era ruins and remains on its surface.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Afoe has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- The world is host to a Vargr Corsair Base.
- The world is host to a Vargr Naval Base.
- Vargr starports reflect the variety of Vargr architecture, with many disparate styles of building, each having their own unique ornamentation and gaudy colour scheme, and all competing for the attention of the onlooker. Emblems for the major shipping lines and port facilities abound.
World Population (P)[edit]
Afoe has a population of 40,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
- The population entirely consists of Vargr.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Afoe possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Afoe has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Law (L)[edit]
Afoe has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: 0 (unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 9 (moderate)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: 8 (generally available)
- Efficiency: +1 (average)
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 7 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 7 (aloof)
- Strangeness: 5 (distinct)
- Symbols: 7 (somewhat concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka claims and settles worlds across the region.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -2404 to -2215: the human Interstellar Wars rage to rimward. The region becomes increasingly neglected.
- -2400s: Vargr raiding into the region significantly increases. This becomes known as the Vargr Pillaging.
- -2204 to -1776: the Rule of Man nominally administers the worlds of the region. Conflicts escalate between Vargr and humans as the Vargr occupy former Ziru Sirka territory.
- circa -1700: Vargr rimward expansion gradually ceases: the border between human and Vargr space stabilizes.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- The Year 0: to rimward, the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
