Interstellar contact came around -4700, when the [[Loeskalth]] began intermittently raiding the Tapazmal for artwork and other valuable objects. These raids continued until the [[Vilani]] came to Dlaekan several centuries later. The Tapazmal eagerly accepted Vilani offers of technological aid and protection, at the cost of submerging their native culture in the Vilani Way. Tapazmal civilization grew under Vilani custody, but it never reached beyond Dlaekan. During the [[Rule of Man]], however, cultural records were unearthed and studied, and the Tapazmal tried diligently to return to the ways of their distant ancestors. With [[Solomani]] support, they established several colonies in nearby systems.

Dlaekan is a rich, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • It has high-grade living conditions and life on this world is much admired by off-worlders.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Moibin Subsector of Reft Sector in the Domain of Vland.
  • It is the homeworld of the Tapazmal, a sophontic species and minor race.

Mainworld Data

The planet is a hot world, its mean surface temperature exceeding 70 degrees Celsius.

  • It has an unusually dense core and a surprising amount of tectonic activity.

Mainworld Size (S)

Dlaekan is a Small World between 4,000km and 5,600km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.24G and 0.34G. The horizon will appear about 3km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Dlaekan has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Dlaekan has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

Native Sophont: Tapazmal

Physically, the Tapazmal are little different from the rest of Humaniti. One notable feature is their low birthrate, believed to be a result of geneering by the Ancients. This modification likely served to limit Dlaekan's population in Ancient times, thereby conserving the mountains' scant resources.

History & Background (Dossier)

Dlaekan is a rich, Imperial system in Moibin Subsector of Reft Sector.

  • It is also the Tapazmal homeworld.
  • The early Tapazmal lived on the slopes of Dlaekan's high peaks, where the atmosphere was thinner and temperatures lower.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)

Dlaekan, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

World Starport (Sp)

Dlaekan has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)

Dlaekan has a population of 1,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics

Tapazmal, population 95%

  • Other, population 5%

World Languages

Urbanization

As Dlaekan is an extremely hot world, most settlements are located high in the mountains where temperatures are more bearable. Since Dlaekan also has a high level of tectonic activity, population relocation from a region becoming unsafe is not uncommon.

World Government (G)

Dlaekan is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law Level (L)

Dlaekan has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)

Dlaekan possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
