The Karhyri race acquired the jump drive from a wrecked Hiver ship. The subsequent journey to return the bodies of the Hiver crew is key to current Karhyri attitudes -- to them, this was a matter of solemn honour, and they were offended by the idle curiosity and general indifference displayed by the Hivers they eventually reached.
