Subsidized Liner (type M): Using a 600-ton hull, the subsidized liner is a passenger and freight carrier committed to long-haul routes. [1]

Basic Ship Synopsis[edit]

M Subsidized Liner. 600 tons. Jump-3. 1-G. 210 tons fuel. Model/3. 30 staterooms, 20 low. 3 hardpoints. Launch. 129 tons cargo. Unstreamlined. 9 crew. MCr236.97; 22 months. [2]

Description[edit]

Using a 600-ton TL12 unstreamlined hull, the subsidized liner is a passenger and freight carrier committed to long-haul routes. It has jump drive-J, maneuver drive-C, and power plant-J, supporting 1 month of operations and giving performance of jump-3 and 1-G acceleration. Fuel tankage supports the power plant and allows one jump-3. Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/3 computer. There are thirty staterooms and twenty low berths. The ship has three hardpoints; no turrets or weapons are installed. There is one ship's vehicle: a 20-ton launch, carried in an internal hangar. Cargo capacity is 129 tons. The hull is overtonnage; adding turrets will increase the overtonnage.

The subsidized liner requires a crew of nine: pilot, astrogator, three engineers, three stewards, and a medic. Up to three gunners may be added in bunks. The ship can carry 21 high or middle passengers and twenty low passengers. The pilot also operates the launch. [3]

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [4]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Subsidized Liners are less common than the ubiquitous free trader, but they carry far more passengers along established trade routes. While the Type M can carry significant amounts of goods cargo, they are better known for hauling passengers, typically tourists and colonists.

The Type M class Subsidized Liner is one of the most common starships found within Charted Space. Many variant classes exist of this type.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Example Type M class Subsidized Liners[edit]

  • The Ad Astra is a Stellar class Subsidized Liner, with some ship names coming from star names or stellar phrases.
  • The DeGrammont is a Subsidized Liner, owned by Arcon Lines (AL) and serves the Regina-Ruie-Jenghe route.
