Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Type-21 class Missile Sloop is a light warship.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

They have a partially streamlined close structure hull equipped with fuel scoops and on board fuel purification for wilderness gas giant refueling. The original M503A maneuver drives are capable of 3G acceleration and are so efficient that maintenance is simple. The TL–11 hulls have Jump-2 drives and carry enough internal fuel for two range 2 jumps, and carry drop tanks with 28 days of power plant fuel and an additional jump 2 as needed. They have all been retrofitted with the modern model 5 fib computer for excellent fire control. A major advantage of these older sloops is the fuel refineries which spare the crews the risk of misjumps. They do have good operational range for rift operations. Serving in the Glorious Leader's Defense Forces within the Glorious Leader's Benevolent Patrol Flotilla.

These are armed with what many consider the superior triple beam laser turret and triple missile turret linked to a dedicated magazine. The hull is unarmored and they don't take punishment well. The three lasers and the big computer rob the design of its agility.

They carry a 9 marine boarding party for security operations and covert snatch and grab black ops. The leader has considered training alien crews, and as a demonstrator to other potential customers, as well as other test and trial purposes.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Designed and built at Urcor for the Worlds of The Leader. These ships operate within the Far Home Sector.

There are in service with the Glorious Leader's Benevolent Patrol Flotilla. The Type-21 Class Missile Sloop are one of the longest serving patrol vessels in the Leader's navy. The leader first received a single unit of this prototype missile sloop as part of only of the first military contracts in the patrol's history. Eventually the Urcor Shipyards built the current version Type 021-class missile sloops at a rate of one boat per year for three more years. Although majority of this class is being transferred to forward outposts, several remain active and these active units are being rearmed with C-101 anti-ship missiles. These sloops are effectively used in swarm missile attacks. This class lead to the development of the larger Osa class Missile Sloops which followed.

The design is obviously at least as successful as the newer Osa class and despite its age, these less expensive sloops will have to remain in active service like its cousins.

Distant Fringe Vessels[edit]

The Distant Fringe is said to be a far spinward-rimward area inhabited by colonists and refugees originating on Terra. The region is extremely isolated, separated from the rest of Charted Space by vast, almost uncrossable rifts that were once broached by a system of calibration Points and the use of tankers. Those few academics within Charted Space who have found references to the Distant Fringe regard it as little more than a tall tale. Likewise, many of the inhabitants of the Distant Fringe believe the existence of Charted Space to be mythical.[3]

Vessels originating within the Distant Fringe are very rarely encountered outside of the region. However, misjumps do occur and anomalies with bizarre spacetime and Jumpspace effects exist: as such, craft of this type are not entirely unknown within Charted Space.[4]

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Each vessel within the class is named by the government of the state that produces it. They generally draw on traditional naming protocols and it is not uncommon for a historical class name to be reused.

  • Individual vessels within the class are issued specific serial numbers and transponder codes.
  • Naming a ship is considered a serious affair and is generally accompanied by a traditional ceremony, usually pouring a local beverage over the bows of the craft. Starfarers tend to be superstitious folk and a ship with a frivolous name is considered "unlucky".
