Tsaegag Subsector is Subsector D of Provence Sector.
- It lies within Charted Space.
- It is part of the Vargr Extents.
Description / Specifications[edit]
Tsaegag Subsector is a region that has seen millennia of settlement by Vargr.
- The resources of the subsector are being exploited.
Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]
The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Tsaegag Subsector:
- The subsector is a low stellar density region.
- The brightest star is the red giant primary of the Ugouksnge system.
- No trade routes are known to pass through the subsector.
Stellar Distribution[edit]
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Tsaegag Subsector, right:
- The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
- The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
- Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
- Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.
Rifts and Voids[edit]
The subsector is an outcrop of the Windhorn Rift.
- The rift hinders travel and commerce within the region.
- It has placed a boundary on settlement and expansion within the area.
A simple map showing the general extent of the Windhorn Rift, right:
The nature and limits of the rift may be determined by different criteria in different regions.
- Generally, its boundaries are based on jump performance.
- Areas may traditionally be considered rift regions, even though all of their worlds are accessible to ships equipped with high performance drives.
World Listing[edit]
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
- The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
- Other sources may contain contradictory or incorrect information.
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, is likely to be out of date.
- Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
- Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Despite its proximity to the Vargr homeworld, the subsector remains a backwater region of the Empire of Varroerth.
Udeh Kal, owned by the company of the same name, serves as a reverse engineering/research institute, working on items of technology that have been passed to it by Imperial interests. The terms of its Imperial charter do not allow it to deal with non-Empire interests.
Khvhaergvaetso was one of the worlds that joined Lair when it seceded from the Empire of Varroerth in 777.
Polity Listing[edit]
The following polities lie within the subsector:
Native Sophonts (NILs)[edit]
No races (sophont species) are believed to have originated in this area.
Demographics[edit]
Significant populations of the following races (sophont species) reside within this area:
- Terragens (Non-human Terran races)
Subsector Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this subsector and the wider region that it lies within:
- ca -250,000: The Ancients were active within the sector, transplanting the Vargr onto Lair.
- -9235: the Vilani discover jump technology. A few explorers and settlers begin to pioneer the region.
- -4045 to -2204: the Ziru Sirka claims a few rimward worlds and establishes a firm border. The Windhorn Rift and the absence of any significant Mains discourages large-scale Vilani expansion into the region.
- -3810: the Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -2400s: Vargr raiding into human-dominated areas significantly increases. This becomes known as the Vargr Pillaging.
- ca -2350: the Foergaz Coalition, an early polity, collapses.
- ca -1700: Vargr rimward expansion gradually ceases: the border between human and Vargr space stabilizes.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- The Year 0: to rimward-trailing, the Third Imperium is founded.
- circa 26: the Empire of Varroerth is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the subsector.
- 777: the Lair Protectorate is established.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the subsector.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the subsector becomes widely available.
- 1095: Faarzgaen extremists capture a number of worlds and secede from the Empire of Varroerth. They declare a Jihad against neighbouring worlds.
- 1096: the Province of Llaeghskath secedes from the Empire of Varroerth, becoming the Llaeghskath Interacterate.
Later Eras[edit]
Collapse and Virus[edit]
The Tsaegag subsector encountered fewer Vampire attacks than others in the region, largely due to the low stellar density and the difficulty of traversing rift regions in already failing ships. While in many cases it only takes one attack to render catastrophic results (such as Gvoghaellthoe, Kugk, Khok Ae, and Uedh Kal) some worlds did not suffer greatly (including Khvhaergvaetso, Ugouksnge, and Okhdzueg, and Tsaegag).
Okhdzueg and Tsaegag continue to carry out a small amount of trade with one another. Okhdzueg is an agricultural world while Tsaegag conducts a limited amount of manufacturing. Although a huge market awaits them at Oekh Dal, they are fearful of accidentally encountering remnants of Virus.
Udeh Kal was a reverse engineering/research institute, working on items of technology that had been passed to it by Imperial interests. Although only legally permitted to deal with the Empire, the owners realized that a diversified client base was much more preferable. As such, they traded with semi-independent Imperial regional governors as well as corsairs and other interstellar states. Being somewhat remote, they were able to avoid Virus for some time. Expecting to be attacked by warships, a much needed supply ship did not receive a thorough inspection. It contained an egg which, when it "hatched", went right to the environmental controls. Whether or not it is still present is unknown. The worlds remote location has been an inconvenience to would-be looters and pillagers.
New Era[edit]
In 1202 the subsector has an estimated population of approximately 936 million, a decline of 89% from its pre-Collapse population. Oekh Dal has the highest population (600 million), while Khvhaergvaetso has the highest tech level rating of TL–10.
- In 1120 the subsector had an estimated population of approximately 8.5 billion. Its highest population was 8 billion at Oekh Dal. Khvhaergvaetso had the highest tech level, at TL–14.
Subsector Summary[edit]
Tsaegag, subsector D of Provence, contains 11 worlds with an estimated combined population of 8 billion, a per capita income of Cr5,206, and a total economy of BCr44,184. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr351 through 11 starports (3 Class A, 5 Class B, 3 Class C, 0 Class D) employing 49,340 people. Driving this interstellar trade are four Agricultural (Ag) worlds, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, one Pre-Agricultural (Pa) world, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, two Rich (Ri) worlds, and one Industrial (In) world.
