Rethe has both an unbreathable, very thin atmosphere and no surface water which makes habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population over one billion. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Regina Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Rethe, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a count. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- Rethe is a member of the Spinward Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Rethe has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld. It is a major moon of the system's second gas giant.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x3 gas giants. One is a hot gas giant orbiting very close to the star, the second orbits just beyond the outer edge of the habitable zone, and one orbits in the outer system.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Rethe is a major moon of the system's second gas giant.
- It is tidally locked to its enormous primary world.
The mainworld and its gas giant primary world orbit just within the outer system.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rethe is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rethe has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
It has hot, cold and very cold climate zones, depending on its exposure to the star as it orbits its gas giant primary world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rethe has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Since it was colonized, the world has been a backwater, with the population producing just enough to support the cost of life support. The last two kings have been very charismatic, and through nationalization of industry have upgraded Rethe's starport. Rethe appears to be on the verge of becoming a major world, and the citizenry seems to like that development.
Rethe is a world best known for the Rethenian Festival.
A significant population of Llellewyloly exists on this world.
Oberlindes Lines and Tukera Lines, attracted by the X-boat terminus at nearby Dhian, are competing for shipping and passenger services to this world.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Rethe has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
- The starport is in the process of being upgraded considerably.
World Population (P)[edit]
Rethe has a population of 30,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
World Languages[edit]
- Anglic
- Hulloyuo-co
- Vilani (language)
World Demographics[edit]
In the 1080s, Rethe's population experienced a 'baby boom' and began growing explosively. The growth spurt seems to be tapering off now, but in the last 25 years the population has grown by well over six billion. The citizens have been struggling to cope with the population increase, building more orbital habitats and other needed infrastructure, putting a tremendous strain on all space activities. At one point visiting starships could not expect to get any service at all, at least not in a timely manner. Things seems to be improving, and the starport will soon be reclassified to Class D, and may become Class C in a few years; eventually it may get back to its original Class B status. [2]
Urbanization[edit]
In addition to Rethe Startown, other major settlements on Rethe include Khidabra, Klu City, Ursaka, Gashi, Kanala, Eudukate, Mead, and Usheme.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Rethe possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Rethe is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.
World Law (L)[edit]
Rethe has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
