Nisor Subsector is Subsector H of Far Home Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Nisor Subsector lies within Far Home Sector and is named for the Nisor system and its red giant primary star. The Subsector is considered to lie on the edge of the Moat Rifts. The Protectorate of Leset, a paranoid and autocratic Mantlerist state, occupies the systems of the Ritos Cluster, lying within its coreward regions. The Protectorate has annexed the scattered rimward systems accessible by conventional Jump-2 vessels: they are collectively known as the Client States.

Polities[edit]

The Protectorate of Leset is a monolithic impersonal bureaucracy headed by the Protector. It is a Mantlerist state – the first to emerge in the Distant Fringe – and is relatively politically isolated. The Protectorate sees itself as a society of equals striving to bring equality and liberty to the downtrodden masses. However, some are far more equal than others – those in positions of power and influence enjoy advantages that the general population do not. The state is repressive and paranoid. A brutal pro-Mantlerist purge is underway and those deemed to be dissidents may suffer arrest, interrogation and incarceration for activities "against the interests of the State and the Citizens".

  • Client States: (the ANMaN Worlds). Systems that have undergone regime changes resulting in pro-Mantlerist movements coming to power. They have a population of 3.006 billion, almost all humans of Terran descent. They are by necessity politically close to the Protectorate.

Interstellar Relations[edit]

Turmoil and fear engulfs the Protectorate of Leset as the increasing pro-Mantlerist purge reveals increasing numbers of counter-Mantlerists and traitors. The sinister OIA, the Office of Internal Affairs, supported by military units, arrests, interrogates and incarcerates any person it deems to be "acting against the interests of the State and the Citizens". Those of Fives descent are particularly reviled and many are denounced by their peers. Social norms and supply chains within the state have begun to break down as key figures disappear, replaced with loyal but less capable individuals. The state maintains a facade of social normality, with uplifting public proclamations and propaganda, flagship infrastructure projects, and uplifting cultural events. Everything is in short supply and there is a thriving – though absolutely illegal – black market.

The Vigs, the feared intelligence arm of the Worlds of The Leader, are known to be active within the Subsector, particularly along the worlds of the Outland Run Star Lane. They maintain a network of informants, handlers and sympathisers and engage in a variety of covert activities. They particularly target Mantlerist organisations or anyone suspected of having Mantlerist sympathies.

Dramatically increasing levels of piracy along the Outland Run Star Lane require the commitment of a significant proportion of Ras Tennol's naval forces. This is placing an increasingly heavy burden on the world.

Capitals[edit]

Leset is the capital of the Protectorate of Leset and serves as the Subsector capital.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Nisor Subsector saw limited activity by humans prior to the establishment of the Third Confederation, and what little development there was abruptly ended with the advent of the Dark Age, nearly two thousand years ago. Following the Renaissance period survivor worlds were recontacted, scavengers picked over the few remains that there were, and hardy pioneers looked to the empty systems and the opportunities they presented. Almost all expansion and growth within the region is relatively modern, beginning during the so-called Golden Age and continuing with the nebulous Development Organizations and the rise of polities.

  • A strong social divide exists between wealthy and aristocratic Fives, descended from the original settlers and crew of the Last Armada, and Gens, individuals whose ancestors were grown in GenPods and raised by Hoppers. Within its coreward regions, those of Fives ancestry are uniformly despised. They are regarded as parasites and leeches at best and may suffer persecution and abuse.
