Marado-Leset System

The primary is Marado, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I-I) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (I-II) Leset, designated the mainworld, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (II-I) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (II-II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (III) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (IV) a ringed large gas giant, (V) a large gas giant, (VI) a ringed small gas giant, and (VII) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I-II) Leset

(I-II) Leset is designated the mainworld. It orbits Marado at a mean distance of 0.34 AU (50.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 103 days 13 hours: it is tidally locked to Marado. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Leset has a diameter of 6,703 km, a density of 5.62 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.53 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Marado cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.93 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N₂), 19% oxygen (O₂), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H₂O), carbon dioxide (CO₂), ozone (O₃), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 69% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water and sheets of water-ice: average tidal ranges exceed 1m. Mean surface temperature: 12°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 141 million km², Water surface area: 97 million km², Land surface area: 44 million km².

• Leset is a Twilight Zone World. Much of the surface ice is concentrated on the dark face of the world.
• The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms

Marado-Leset System

Leset, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (II-I) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Leset is the capital of the Protectorate of Leset.

World Starport

Leset has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.

World Military

Peoples Liberation Army still maintains an old battalion of x36 classic Simoon class ACV/GEVs. They are organized into three companies of eleven with a battalion headquarters with three more of these Hovercraft.

Historically these shipyards and military base were famous for the legendary Lawson class Light Cruiser and the Accuser class Destroyer.
