The Lawson class Light Cruiser is a TL–9 Light Cruiser.
Description[edit]
The close structure hull was easy and cheap to build. Built in orbit over Leset (world), she has a Model/2 fib ship computer and is capable of 1G acceleration and has no Agility rating. The partial streamlining, combined with the fuel scoops and on board fuel refineries permit wilderness gas giant refueling. The TL–9 hull has Jump-1 drives and carries enough internal fuel for a single jump, and carry 28 days of power plant fuel.
They are armed with a single 100ton factor 6 particle accelerator bay.
They can also carry a 20.0 dton Life Boat.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
These were a very early design, when the distant fringe was a very different place. Protectorate People's Forces high command saw them as an inexpensive experiment. Naval fleet tactics had not evolved much at that point. These are a very old design, the total number built and deployed is still a closely guarded secret. They were never seen to operate in large numbers. A cold war design they never saw much active combat. It is uncertain if any of these vintage hulls are still operational, in light of the more modern TL–12 designs available today. The model 2 fib computer was not ideal. The faster model 3's required power which was allocated for the massive particle accelerator. Limited mobility and range meant that fleet operations required dedicated support vessels. A handful of ships were all that was required to tip the scales back then. A modest design by modern standards, it is deliberately misnomered as a "light cruiser" to conceal its real function as a small-scale troop transport. Landing those 220 marines was problematic at best. A tiny naval crew was wildly outnumbered by their marine cohort. At this time reinforced marine companies were massive formations in light of the heavy casualties predicted and expected. Marines of this era were equipped with lightly armored Vacc Suits and Laser Rifles and little else. The 4 marine command element consisted of the CO and XO (a marine infantry captain and the executive officer, a first lieutenant with a pair of enlisted). Combat marine officers of this era occasionally sported Snub Pistols for zero-G work and boarding cutlasses were greatly beloved. These two enlisted runners in the command post element could be signals, sniper/scouts equipped with electronic sights and trained as forward observers or medics if they were lucky. There were four large platoons with 54 marines in each, led by a single second lieutenant, their NCO's and the other enlisted ratings. At least one demolitions expert was expected per platoon for breaching. Getting combat engineering was rare in those days. There were no organic logistical elements in this organization and the unit was wholly reliant on external support attachments for any sustained operations. The 20ton launch is not effective as a troop ferry and there were no drop capsules fitted. If protracted deployments were anticipated, the fourth rifle platoon would stand down and a support platoon would be substituted in its place. Deploying troops was a slow, labor-intensive process, only possible covertly, unobserved and unopposed. No storming a beach head for these forces. Designed and built at Leset (Far Home 2511) for the Protectorate of Leset. These ships operated within the Far Home Sector. Serving as marine transport for the Protectorate Naval Forces.
