The Accuser class Destroyer is a TL–9 Destroyer.
Description[edit]
The close structure hull was easy and cheap to build. Built in orbit over Leset (world), she has a Model/3 fib ship computer and is capable of 1G acceleration and has no Agility rating. The partial streamlining, combined with the fuel scoops and on board fuel refineries permit wilderness gas giant refueling. The TL–9 hull has Jump-1 drives and carries enough internal fuel for a single jump, and carry 28 days of power plant fuel.
They are armed with eight single missile turrets. These have been very inefficiently grouped into two factor 2 batteries. Eight nuclear "ballistic warheads" were considered a devastating orbital salvo. Triple turrets with better fire control was considered unnecessary.
They carry three squadrons of 20 dton Fighters, each squadron is composed of eight deck fighters. Each fighter has a pilot and a gunner to handle the twin pulse laser batteries mounted. The fighters have a small craft bridge with two acceleration couches and a small craft stateroom to provide extended life support for protracted patrols away from the mothership. The price of the vessels is calculated to include the price of these fairly expensive fighters, which were delivered together as a complete package deal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
These were a very early design, when the distant fringe was a very different place. Protectorate People's Forces high command sought to disguise their actual function just like they did with the Lawson class Light Cruisers. These are too small to serve as true destroyers in the modern sense, they are in fact extremely compact escort carriers, used to deploy three undersized squadrons of dual place fighters armed with two batteries of pulse lasers. These fighters sacrifice maneuverability and agility to mount a power plant large enough for the pulse lasers. The intended role was close air support of dirt side marines, and NOT close quarters combat aka dogfighting. With so much tonnage allocated to fighter hangars other aspects relevant to a ship's ability to survive combat were sacrificed. These vessels have no defensive countermeasures. The are wholly reliant on their fighter screen to protect them. When three fighter squadrons were not deemed necessary by mission planners they would often substitute 20 dton Marine Dropships to serve as orbit to shore interface vessels to help onload the more ponderous Lawson class Light Cruisers.
Naval fleet tactics have changed a great deal since that concept was proposed. They are an ancient TL–9 legacy and their current flight status and operational deployments and have been kept deliberately very vague. They typically were tasked to travel in three ship destroyer flotillas with a single light cruiser to direct them. With the price of their fighters included they turned out to be more expensive than the larger light cruisers, much to the chagrin of fleet procurement budgets. So many naval histories complain loudly about the criminally negligent armaments. Two salvos of four "ballistic warheads" never proved to be the diplomatic deterrent that they had envisioned. Limited mobility and range meant that fleet operations required dedicated support vessels. A small eight marine detachment was retained to repel boarders and provide shore patrol security, assuming of course that a willing interface craft could be obtained from squadron assets. Designed and built at Leset (Far Home 2511) for the Protectorate of Leset. These ships operated within the Far Home Sector. Serving as very light escort carriers for the Protectorate Naval Forces.
