Dekalb is an oceanic water world with very deep oceans and a short-sleeve breathable atmosphere. The system has a population between ten million and 100 million sophonts. It is a client state of Third Imperium in the Querion Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Dekalb has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x10 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
This metal-rich waterworld has no significant land surfaces other than a few coral atolls. The seas of Dekalb are low in animal life, but high in metals.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Dekalb is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Dekalb has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Dekalb has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Most of the population lives on large mining platforms constructed in shallow parts of the world-ocean. These platforms average about 25,000 to 40,000 people in population, and are constructed with landing platforms so that ships can land directly to ship the extracted ore for processing and export. The main downport is located in a sheltered cove set in a coral reef. The world is ruled by a bureaucracy made up of senior rig personnel, and is divided accordingly.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Dekalb has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Dekalb has a population of 30,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Anglic, one of the two principal languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two principal languages of the Imperium.
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Dekalb possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government (G)[edit]
Dekalb is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
World Law (L)[edit]
Dekalb has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
