Calamain is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a member of The Protectorate in the Taemerlyk Subsector of Far Frontiers Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Asteroid Belt 05.jpg

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Calamain is an Asterioid Belt or Planetoid Belt consisting of a few very large objects with diameters of hundreds of kilometers, thousands of bodies of a few kilometers in diameter, and millions of smaller objects. Asteroid Belt is used when the belt is the mainworld of a system. Planetoid Belt refers to any non-mainworld belt within a system.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Calamain is an Asteroid Belt, where all the bodies are in vacuum conditions requiring the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle a belt.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

The Calamain belt contains a few icy bodies. A few belt objects have frozen volatiles on their surfaces.

  • Wilderness refueling is possible within the belt, provided a suitable icy object can be found.
  • Water for the inhabitants is generally imported and is extensively recycled.

Calamain is a Danger World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.

  • Visitors are advised to act with caution.

The Protectorate Naval Administration is based at Calamain. It operates as a local peace-keeping force in times of calm, but when activated to full alert status it serves as the central cadre for the combined Protectorate Planetary Navies.

As a member of The Protectorate, Caractacalla sends a specially selected Representative to the High Council, the polity's governing body.

  • The role is prestigious and is highly sought.
  • The Representative is chosen by the military authorities.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Calamain has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Calamain has a population of 20,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

Urbanization[edit]
