Elliador is a preindustrial, moderate population water world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

• Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
• The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
• As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
• This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
• This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
• This world-system hosts a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships, which may be located on or off-world.
• It is the homeworld of the Eslyat, a sophont species and minor race.
• It is the capital of the Eslyat Magistracy.

Ellias is a star near its natural death. Its continual brightening would have ended life upon Elliador 30 million years ago, but a planetary realignment caused by a near collision permitted the native biology to continue thriving, and contributed to the evolution of the Eslyat race. Ellias is now nearing the end of its stable brightening and within 10,000 years it will finally render Elliador uninhabitable. The Eslyat are aware of this, and it motivates their expansionism; by the time the end comes, the Eslyat civilization will hopefully be entirely relocated.

Elliador is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Elliador has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Elliador has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.

Native Lifeforms

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Fauna includes the following:

• Krysha: Filter-feeding animals.
• Syrkisya: An animal, the polyps of which feed a great variety of sea life.

Native Sophont (NIL): Eslyat

A semi-aquatic reptilian species, who have expanded rapidly in spite of their relatively small population.

History & Background / Dossier

Elliador is controlled by the Sesshayr Theocracy. This aggressive religious dictatorship is pervasive. The Sesshayr religion is central to all aspects of the native culture.

• In addition, this water world is a traditional location of treaty signings; for example the 1058 treaty which ended the Second Eslyat War with the Trelyn Domain and another peace treaty in 1087 which effectively ended the Fourth Eslyat War.

World Starport

Elliador has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Elliador has a population of 700,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

• The population consists entirely of Eslyat.

World Demographics

The Eslyat are split between three subraces:

• Chutin: Sub-race of red-scaled Eslyat. In modern culture, a caste of police, warriors, sports performers and explorers.
• Magsin: Sub-race of green-scaled Eslyat. A working class in modern Eslyat society.
• Selyin: Sub-race of blue-scaled Eslyat, today an upper class of nobility, scholars and merchants.

The Eslyat are gregarious and social among members of their own species and become depressed if isolated from their community.

• The Tarf family is dominant on Elliador, and in the Eslyat Magistracy as a whole.

• They eventually acquired jump technology in 613 from a wayward Zhodani freighter. Expansion and colonization followed, considered a necessity given the short life expectancy of Elliador's star.
• The world now hosts a Naval Base and is the headquarters of the Eslyat Magistracy.
